Political Science as an Optional for a first timer (2017),who has just dived into the ocean of UPSC.

Hi.
I have just completed my third year of Engineering and have taken the leap of faith, rejected my placement offers(I am from a Tier 1 college, so got well placed) and have finally decided to give in the final year (which somewhat involves negligible efforts).

I started with my GS prep 2 months back, and loving everything about it.. (Finishing the NCERTs, Starting with Laxmikanth, Bipin Chandra, etc)

But this Optional thing is actually nudging me.

I attended a few classes at a good coaching centre, from a very experienced faculty who himself cleared UPSC with Pol Sc. optional.
Whatever he speaks and tells, is something well understood by me, but when the fellow aspirants in the class start the "Discussions" .. Oh well.. I feel like jumping out of the window.

But, I somewhat want to understand and learn this subject really well. As well as I can. I don't know, but it excites me.

Any other aspirants, particularly first timers, taking up Pol Sc.

And the senior players..
"Bhaiya, Didi, Bhabhi.."..
How do I begin my journey for this?

By "my", I mean starting the self study. Yes, I will obviously be following what the coaching guy says/tells..
But, where do I find the basic level stuff to start with it? (I have no background at all)

Thanks!
