@indianbabu if you have applied through RTI online, then contact upsc will be written in remarks. Status will be pending. My status is pending as well and similarly in remarks they had mentioned a number to contact. i contacted upsc. They said wait 30 days for response. The "contact upsc at the pio number" is one of the automatic things done by software, so it is not needed. But in any case u can contact them and ask them that they shall hurry up. But we will have to wait 30 days before one can go on appeal.
P.S. I am not at all trying to promote this website...neither i know these persons..just tried to help all those who really want to find out a reason that despite writing best of the answer, still could not clear the exam. This step will not only help these students but others too in getting an idea what upsc really wants and making its funtcioning more transparent
i have received the reply saying that answer sheets cannot be disclosed as the matter is subjudice and in the interim supreme court agrees with UPSC stand. The case mentioned is SLA No. 33761/2012. I tried looking up the case but could not locate, so if u get hold of it then forward me the link. It is clear that upsc does not want to disclose but with recent supreme court judgement i don't know how long they can maintain the status quo. I will file an appeal now.
That appeal (33761) of Kerala HC is pending, since SC stayed the HC verdict. Your RTI will be turned down most likely. I would suggest you to keep appealing to appellate authority until CIC. With CIC there are may such cases. In such cases UPSC is ordered to preserve your answer sheets until the SC verdict comes. Most likely SC will side with UPSC, as it usually does (power elite nexus), and will refuse to show your answer sheets. Still, unless you approach CIC, UPSC will not be obligated to keep your answer sheets and they will be destroyed within 60 days as per policy.
And if by some stroke of luck SC orders to reveal answer sheets, may be your son/daughter will get to see them some day. (The case hasn't moved an inch since 2012)
@Jaime_Lannister yeah i saw various cic orders ending with the same judgement that wait for the case to conclude and in the meantime asks the upsc to preserve the answer sheets. But maybe with recent SC judgement i see some hope. Also can try filing a writ or whatever. But why hasn't the case moved at all? This is what i was looking for. Are the hearings done and SC has kept the decision or they just keep postponing coz no ones interested? I am worried that lazy ass examiners aren't too bothered with how they check answer sheets (coz i don't see toppers sample answers are so out of blue as their marks are) and thus if there is some transparency atleast they will look carefully.
See, that case is very old from 2009. And there are 3-4 similar cases in SC and in all those cases too, Kerala case reference is given. I was aware of only one guy long time back who was actively involved in this (he knew the petitioner in one of the cases), but now he is not interested and moved on from UPSC. Maybe others too have lost interest.
My guys case was merely about revealing Hindi and English mains cutoff. And U P S C cited some really stupid reasons not to even reveal that. But ultimately they could not continue with that laughably stupid logic anymore and finally incorporated the cutoff in notification itself from 2013.
The point is that these RTIs are essential. Maybe Most likely they won't serve any purpose for you, but will make the system transparent for the future generations.
When we both have a little time, I'll tell you the whole thing, someday, in greater detail. But covering even such small information citing such flimsy reasons make one suspicious about something being rotten in the state of Denmark. @trying_tobawesm

I have applied too. Quoting the judgement you mentioned in application.
They have put the status as contact UPSC on a number. Shall I contact or wait for the expiry of 20 days? What's your update..
