Tips / Hack to increase your attempt in UPSC Prelims

Hi All,

We have written a comprehensive article explaining some of the tricks/hacks which can be applied in any MCQ based exam. We have taken CSP 2015 as an example and explained how >30 questions from CSP 2015 could have been attempted even if one did not have any knowledge about the topic. There is no hidden magic here. Tricks are based on pattern analysis, understanding psychology of paper setter and carefully understanding of questions.

You can read it here http://www.ias4sure.com/tips-hacks-to-clear-prelims-without-studying/

I am sure many of you must be knowing these tricks already (especially engineers :P,. If you want share it with us, we can add them too.).

Post is lengthy (15 minute read), sorry about that. But we explained in detail how to apply them on each question. So, would suggest everyone who is giving prelims or any other MCQ based exam to read this.

  • Was worth wasting my time...Won't visit your site again
  • luck fallows the hardworker ; u can take 'shot ' if u know something otherwise its a shot in dark
  • @Captain_Peroxide Yes you are right these tricks can back fire and we have mentioned that. Babur question, we have marked as WRONG by our logic. But You missed 10 right questions by the same logic in same paper. This is the reason we had to analyse all questions and see cost-benefit of these approaches.

Having said that, there is no substitute for hard work and studying. And that is clearly mentioned in the post. But still there are many questions where we have doubt and often we leave them. Tricks can be of help there.

About having keys and we can justify now etc.. this was the reason we posted marks. These tricks have been helpful to us and they have been tested by us.

One of the reason we have written this post 2 months prior to prelims is to enable you guys to verify yourself on any years paper or for any other exam. There are some basic limitations while setting questions and these tricks utilise those limitation.

Again, hard work and study is the primary reason of success not this tricks.

    I rest my case :)

  • I have to say one thing, the post is nice, but it is relevant only when you apply this stuff in hindsight . Most of the times when you apply these logo etc. in the examination hall it WOULD backfire !!!!

  • @Captain_Peroxide My geography is not so strong .. but again if the statement says that "Mangrove forests are found on entire coastline of India" I would go with NO .. can you confirm that it is found .. because India's eastern coast is submerging and western is emerging .. mangroves generally don't grow on emerging coasts (because coastline is steep here and rocky).. so in western coast it is found in limited number of pockets.. again .. I may be wrong.. but I don't have to give prelims :) you please confirm that ..

@Guddu .. you may be right .. they need practice .. we have been applying them for years .. so it may be easy for us .. and that is the reason for posting this thing early .. best would be to work hard and one should not bank on these tricks etc. But there is no harm in having one more weapon in your arsenal.
  • When I read the title of the thread what came to my mind was the increase in attempt limit from 6 attempts for general category.
  • ok las4Sure bhay. thanque for your post.
small doubt. is it useful for prelims 2 nd paper.
  • Unless you have a sound basic knowledge, this would back fire... All these comments can be made after the exam.... But in real times... Its too risky
  • @TELangana If you are able to understand these tricks correctly ... that means you have good analytical skill .. which means you won't require these tricks in paper 2.

If you are not able to understand them .. please don't apply them and prepare hard for CSAT II .. no offence intended :)
