Reasoning Doubt

edited July 2013 in Miscellaneous
Reasoning comprises of 25% in almost all competitive exams. Many of you must have been preparing ,or prepared, for this portion atleast at one or the other stage.
I wanted to know how you guys approach to reasoning.
Any rough outline to score well in reasoning?
I have RS Aggrawal Verbal and Non-Verbal reasoning.
It has tons of topics. Which topics are to be covered well?
My prime focus is bank related exams (officer level). I find its reasoning tougher compared to non-bank exams like ssc and other exams.
What are the basics that we need to learn before starting to acquire reasoning skills?
Like tables , sq. rt.and cube rt.
---
I feel 'incomplete' as far as reasoning is concerned and this makes me feel uncomfortable.
---
Please help me out.
Even 2 lines of guidance matters !
---
TIA.

Best regards,
Sheen.

    @andy133

Ok. I will concentrate on those topics. Thank you.

Whenever I start Reasoning , I start feeling sleepy. :-P
  • For reasoning you should be thorough with basic mathematics like multiple powers of single digit numbers, squares and cubes. It is very difficult for anyone to teach it because each question is different. Only with rigorous practice you can excel in it. It is not difficult but it is tricky. Try to make a diagram for all verbal reasoning questions while reading the question which will help you a lot in answering.

  • I never really practice reasoning nor do i have any book for it ; i did squares , cubes , percentages and revise them a day before every exam as i tend to forget :P ; and i still am able to fare well in reasoning section ; though RBI needs much more practice - ssc and PO are fine.
The only way to go with reasoninng is practice after you do these .

As mentioned by @andy133 important sections for example :
Blood relation - if complex, make a sort of chart - female alphabets in circle- male in square and i mark symbols for particular relation like if husband /wife then double arrow ; if siblings then just a line connecting them or maybe blank ( depends on mood ) you'll get the answer .
so these kind of tricks mentioned / drawn in books help -- might be there in you can find

Oh i did borrow once an MBA CAT book by bulls eye on reasoning from a friend and learnt these in college - they help . like : Drawing the grids for allocation questions and all
    @andy133

Ok. I will concentrate on those topics. Thank you.

    Me too

  • @sheen for making yourself perfect in reasoning,do booklets of any institutes like time,cl or byjus
Rs agarwal is good but a huge stuff bhai !
  • @diamond_box
Ya. RS Agarwal is a giant book.
    It does give ample practice.
  • How to get confident in Reasoning section:
    1) analyse(outline) the sections(topics) of the reasoning, relevant to the exam you are aspiring for.
    2) look at the "study material" which focuses on the exercise with the increasing level of difficulty, (easier to tougher, TIME/CL/Arihant books)
    3) enjoy solving problem, take interest in giving time bounded tests.
    4) practice reasoning at scheduled time intervals (everyday or weekly, according to your level of confidence).
(try to attempt free online mock tests)

Ohh Started for prelims 2014 =D> Very good
  • Thank you all guys.
Working on sharpening my reasoning ability.

    Best regards,
    Sheen.
  • There is one good book which gives reasoning basics / steps "Analytical Reasoning" by MK Pandey (Banking Service Chronicle) . I found it really good to improve the reasoning skills . You can first study that and then move to RS Aggarwal .
