Hey everyone
I have yoga as my hobby and while searching for probable questions that can be asked in interview, I found few questions on forumias portal. Here is my attempt: Kindly review and add to them.
Q1. What is Yoga ? Know about genesis of Yoga , Patanjali yoga etc ?
Ans. Yoga is an ancient Indian system having physical, mental and spiritual elements into it designed for wholesome well-being of an individual. It is dated to pre-vedic times practiced by sages and seers for physical and spiritual objectives. eventually, it got handed down to generations by means of oral tradition. this vast knowledge was systematised only in 2nd Century BC by Patnajali in Yoga Sutras and that's why it came to be known as Patanjali Yoga.
Q2. What is Aasan , Pranayam , Mudra and other aspects of yoga ?
Ans. Asanas and Pranayam are two major limbs of Yoga System as delineated by Patnajali. While Asanas focus on physical posture, Pranayam refers to control of breathing. Mudra, on the other hand, can be understood as part of Asanas. these are hand movements and each mudra have specific health benefits.
Q3. Which Aasanas or what form of yoga is practiced by you and level of proficiency ? How did you learn yoga ?
Ans. Dhanurasana, Chakrasana, Halasana, Bhujangasana, etc etc. Levels of yoga aren't clearly defined, these are only indicative. I learnt yoga from a relative practising at home.
Q4. What is the effect of Yoga on mind , body and physiology ?
Ans. As meditation is an integral part of Yoga, it imparts peace of mind, helps in introspection, helps in concentration especially during turbulent times. This mental health goes a long way in imparting physical well-being further augmented by means of Asanas and Pranayama. With body as whole, Yoga helps in improving functioning of each organ and several practices can be directed towards one particular organ, for example, Dhanurasana helps in glowing skin, among other things.
Q5. How is it different from physical exercises , aerobics etc?
Ans. All systems have their benefits with aerobics and gymnastics being very popular these days.
However, a very significant difference is in objectives of other systems and that of yoga. Yoga is a holistic system having physical, mental and spirtitual objectives while other systems are more focused on physical aspect. Due to this, effects of aerobic exercises can be seen much faster than that of yoga.
Other differences could be that Yoga is suitable for all ages, is much cheaper, chances of withdrawal symptoms are much less.
Q6. Yoga is being made into a commodity for sale. Comment on it.
Ans. Yoga is a kind of an education and commercialisation of this education can be seen as inherently undesirable. However, such commercialisation helps in making the system popular all over the world. further, more popularity leads to more commodification and the two processes reinforce each other. The fallout of this scenario is propagation of inauthentic practices of yoga which has led to dilution of the system. Moreover, work "yoga" has been made synonymous with "poses/asanas" whereas Asanas is just one of the 8 limbs of Yoga. Due to this, spiritual aspect from the system has been sidelined
What can be done? A certification system from the Ministry of AYUSH through an autonomous Board of experts. This would allow people to choose the right place and teacher to learn the practices.
Q7. What should government’s role be vis -a -vis yoga ? International yoga day ? Promote yoga actively by making it a part of curriculum ? Or should the government not play any role in it ?
Ans. Yoga is usually been linked with a particular religion and that's why there has been opposition towards government taking part in its promotion. However, this view undermines the real potential of yoga towards well-being of one and all. Yoga has a lot to offer towards eradicating or at least reducing instances of NCDs in the country (47% of out-of-pocket expenditures is on NCDs). in AYUSH, "U" stand for Unani which is a medicinal system popular with another religion. So, if the objective is to promote good health care practices, it should not be viewed from religious angle. That being said, government's role should be that of promotion and compulsion should not be made. There should be professionals to sensitize children and their parents about its health benefits and then it should be left to them whether to pursue it or not.
International Yoga Day has generated a lot of awareness about the system at the international scale. It has also worked to reclaim Indian Ancient Heritage as it was reported that Chinese yoga practitioners follow yoga system due to popularity of Hollywood stars in China. It has opened up another form of Diplomacy called "Yoga Diplomacy" and hence could be useful for India's foreign relations as well.

Medical science deals with the functioning of different organs of body and yoga is a comprehensive way to keep the body organs free from all diseases, by cleaning body.
In yoga, exercises consist of slow movements to execute poses that are held for a time before release. It doesn't burn body fat as fast as aerobic exercises do.It also lays greater emphasis on the release of contained energy and mind-body-spirit connection.
