NDMA was set in 2005 after disastrous tsunami in the bay of bengal.. headed by the Prime Minister of India,it is the Apex Body for Disaster Management in India, set up under Disaster mgmt act,2005. It also mandates creation of similar institutions at the state
and district levels..State Disaster Management Authorities (SDMAs) headed by respective Chief Ministers of the States have been set up in many states.National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) has also been constituted.. The National Institute of Disaster Management (NIDM) was set up at delhi in 2005.NIDM provides technical support to the state governments through the Disaster Management Centres (DMCs) in the Administrative Training Institutes (ATIs) of the States and Union Territories. Presently NIDM is supporting thirty such centres.
