Sociology Optional - Help required for MBA interview

Hello friends,
Brief background: I somehow have managed to make it into a shortlist for interview of an mba institute for HR. From what I've been told, my 2 year gap is a virtual knockout out of the process, but neverthless, I want to give it my best shot and let the institute take the blame for not selecting me

So to all the socio veterans and newbies out here, it is a humble request to please contribute their gyan on how socio concepts can be used in human resource management. I have decent hold on the subject so i will be familiar with most of the concepts, so whatever comes to your mind in 5 minutes, would be really helpful.

They can vary from Marx's theory of alienation = work life balance to Merton's theory of reference groups .

TIA

  • @Sleeplessnights_89 tagging you here. Any input would be valuable :)
  • Go through the concepts in "work" for relevant stuff wrt to hr management. Scientific management, taylorism, fordism, their limitations, post fordism, Japanese model, how hr mngmt evolved, corporate culture, rise of networks and info tech, Marxian view of labour and society, low skills mcjobs, knowledge Economy- multi skilling, training on the job, etc,etc.. Refer to giddens or haralambos.
On a broader level, many concepts can be related to hr- works of Marx, Durkheim, Weber, Etzioni, etc.
  • Weber- increasing disenchantment with bureaucratization. Concepts of *beyond bureaucracy "- mechanistic and organic organizations.
Hr mngmt, unlike Marxism, doesn't consider the interests of employees to be different from that of the employer..thrfr no need for unions.
Why are there no unions in it industry?
    Contradictory class locations, etc.
The chapter on work and economic life is very lucidly given in giddens which incorporates many modern trends. Do read it.
  • @chhotu : thanks a lot man...will definately do that
  • which college call ?
if it is the mumbai based socialist college let me know
  • @upsc_cracker : no mate, its jharkhand based full on capitalist college..

btw if you have inputs, i would love to hear them :)
