Hello everyone,
Its been almost 5 months since i started preparation for civil services exam. There have been many ups and downs, but fortunately i had been able to move ahead.
However, this current downward phase that i an going through is not ending. Some of things that i am feeling now is:
1. Wasting excessive time on reading newspaper-i read only the hindu and sometimes waste 2.5 to 3 hrs on it without getting any significant returns. Moreover, i am unable to keep a record/notes of all current affairs so after a week its all blank
2. After seeing the mains paper i realized that my preparation has been very haphazard and i have effectively wasted 2.5 to 3 months as if now. This realization stops me from moving foreward on the path i was on, but also makes me more skeptical about any new schedule i plan to make-as it seems that this time it needs to be perfect.
3. I am unable to make notes of any subject. Any notes that i make are either a copy of the whole book, or are damn short and have nothing in them. Now i have started doubting my capabilities to clear this exam.
4. Wasting a lot of time on watching random youtube videos.
Can anyone tell me if he/she has gone through a similar phase and how he/she has coped with it.. please tell me how to make it work out without loosing any more time.
Thanks

My advice is to trust yourself and your strategy. Your emphasis must be on syllabus coverage in depth and breadth. Set daily, weekly and monthly targets at try ti achieve them.
Set aside a particular time , say 3 hours every sunday to watch relevant You Tube videos.
You are the best person to organize your studies.
Two statements which you should keep in mind regarding preparations
1. If you are going through hell, keep going.
2. Suno sabki, karo apni.
Finally, you are not alone. All of us are having various anxieties. Just persevere.
1.) Anxiety manifests itself in various forms...the fear of an uncertain future here makes things worse
2.)So many unnecessary things are how anxiety creeps in...checking things twice, making checks again and again, unable to read, fear of dying etc., etc.,
3.) So mind doesn't want to live in uncertainty so it avoids the trigger of it, which in our case is the studies...so it will be interesting to note that we feel absolute peace and sanity in doing things other than studying..thus it seeks releif in ding things other than pursuing goals.
4.) you're not the same in college because you are not in to the preparation mode where you feel the pressure
am telling all this because when you scientifically know what is the problem you can find easy fixes...the solutions will vary from person to person..and there is no need to have excessive obsession with mains...because you have miles to go before you actually give the exam...so its like a toddler worrying about driving a car after he becomes an adult...relax and analyze your thoughts, you will get through
Sleep for 7 hrs daily and exercise for 1 hr... mood theek rahega aur sehat bhi plus u will grasp more of what u study
Din bhar ghar me baithe rahoge toh pakka depression me jaoge
this is happening because you are trying to do many things at the same time. Try covering one thing at a time...and then you would get into momentum...it has happened to most of us....
