my expected marks: essay~130 gs1~70-75 gs2~40-43 gs3~90-100 gs4~95-105 optional(geo)~90+100=190 total~615-643 expected cut off= hard 2 say(as it ws my 1st attempt and nevertheless its upsc), but i dare 2 guess it must be around mid 600's
Some insider is saying that those who have attempted Helping hand and Dreams essays are not getting good marks because many have opted for the same. I mean what nonsense is this? Now we will be awarded marks on the basis of the topics that we have chosen? Essays are the most important in determining whether one makes it in the list or not as the variation in marks is huge..even if I get decent marks in GS (after putting in so much effort throughout the year) it won't matter simply because I chose the more popular essay topics. This is just ridiculous!

that's not correct anyone can get good or bad marks after certain level of writing. Maximum people write of same quality.

As in the examiners are awarding marks conservatively in that particular optional, and no matter how well someone has done the overall curve will remain below a certain threshold? Just want to get an insight.

yaar sab bakwas hai. After 15th feb jab marks tabulation hoga tab kuch keh sakte hain. Maximum itta idea lagta hai ki kitte log kis optional se interview denge jab schedule prepare hota hai toh expert kitte chahiye iske basis pe. Abhi copy check ho ke upsc staff dekhega ki koi copy me ques check hona bacha bhi hai. Phir jab saara check hoga phir marks total hoga ye prof baith ke marks total nahi karta. Use bhi idea nahi rehta ki kitte marks diye. Wo bhi itta bolega ki ladkon ne kuch bhi pel diya hai ya ache padhne wale bache hain. Rest marks totalling ke baad moderation hoga phir tabulation.
