how to choose optional for civil services exam

I am working in uttar Pradesh power cooperation limited as electrical engineer and now I want to start preparing for civil services as I am working and also there is no availability of coaching so which optional subject should I choose as i cannot have full time preparation so please give your suggestion regarding with which subject I should go......
Is this right way to choose optional subject such as geography, history, public administration, political science,sociology so there is over lap in GS syallbus . please help me regarding selectingoptional and also how to start from zero for preparation of civil services exam
