Confronting Terrorism

This book has been written by Maroof Raza which goes into details of analyzing the situations that led to the emergence of terrorism as a phenomenon. This book is a collection of essays by eminent strategic analysts and military historians. This book goes onto analyzing tackling terrorism by the present Indian setup and suggests the measures that are required to upgrade the Indian politico-administrative setup to tackle this menace. Further this book suggests taking terrorism as a sub-conventional warfare against not only Indian establishment but also its citizens.

This book has been written with the main theme as terrorism and measures that are taken to tackle it in India and in other countries. This book begins with the forewords of Stephen P Cohen the renowned strategist analyst and after which author has made it amply clear that it is India which had been at the helm of affairs of terrorism due to hostile surroundings.

In the first chapter itself the details about the entrenched terror network has been acknowledged which runs even cross the border. This section draws definitional contrast between Terrorism and insurgency affecting India and also acknowledges different strategy to tackle these two as the basic nature if the two is different. Further it identifies a large number of terrorist groups in Pakistan that are the main cause of cross border terrorism and also it supports the basic idea of controlling ISI of Pakistan which is behaving like state with in state. It further claims certain terrorist groups to have become a full fledged organization with established funding mechanism along with social wing to attract people in their ideological traps.

Second chapter gives a comparative analysis of various trends in the emergence of terrorism in west Asia and south Asia notably after Soviet invasion of Afghanistan and Iranian revolution. continue
