How to increase Reading speed?

edited April 2013 in Miscellaneous
I know this is quite a dumb question but how much do you guys cover on an average? I'm extremely worried that my speed has decreased majorly since my college days. First I thought it was to do with the subject in hand. But it's the same across all subjects. I read about 100 pages in 8 hours:(

*Super depressed*

What is reading speed anyway? Who is reading? What are you reading? Will reading 125 pages of Shakespeare as well as reading 125 pages of Chetan Bhagat take you 10 hours each? Do you read Hindu editorial and ToI editorial at same speed? Would you be able to read a 125 page government document in 10 hours? NCERT Geography textbook is a mere 100 pages; does that mean you will be able to finish it in one day!

Stop worrying about such things, friend! Read at the pace that naturally comes to you. It is at that pace that you are able to process and store the information. Reading faster just for the sake of 'reading speed' make get you skimming through the pages without taking in the information. That defeats the basic purpose of reading.

Personally, I think your speed of more than 10 pages (of a textbook) in an hour is very good! Don't waste your time reading self-help :)
