Has anyone joined Gktoday's Target 2013 Prelims test series? The test began on 5th March or so. About 15 tests for Rs. 1500. I am confused about joining it. If some students can share their fedback on the test series?
GKToday is a like one of the must visit websites for me, or at least for most of us working guys who don't have the luxury of taking a break off work and staying put in Rajinder Nagar. (And want to study, while at work)
When I miss a day's Hindu, I can be sure that I will read the summarised news on their website. (No, it is not a substitute for the newspaper) I also took the mains current affairs material last year. It was bit exhaustive, but covered more or less everything. I have not taken any test series yet, but am thinking of taking a month-test long (April-May). I am talking about this. I am not worried about the quality, but still if someone can give a review. @neyawn, @alexaaicha, @partho@AyushSinha and the people from the world of working men :-)
Hello @karthikP I had heard about GKtoday when one of my college friends told me about it. . In my view,
GKtoday is basically most suited for those who are working or are not put up in Delhi. I have access to some of their test papers of Target 2013. (Please don't ask me to post it here- 1st : Legal reasons 2nd: I like the way forumias is right now and I am not cool with recent efforts to make it the piratebay(nothing against it ) of upsc aspirants. If anything, let it be a quora, lifehacker or postsecret for UPSC aspirants : )
I think largely the tests are being asked from expected questions, i.e, their focus is on what has traditionally been asked and what one must prepare. I am pasting some questions from there in a while.
Some topics/questions from Science & Tech :- 1) Which among Chikungunya, JE, Limphatic Filarisis, Kala-zaar is vector born. (Note: All four are important for Pre, and should also be covered in self-prepared newspaper notes)
2) Question on Li-Fi (Light Fidelity) 3) Question on Biological Oxygen Demand (BOD) , phyoplanktons. 4) Biological Indicators, Ecological Indicators.
These are basically the typical areas from which questions appear (You with your experience would know that)
Basically what I would say is that, the test is not going to have questions what will be there in UPSC. Noone can do that. Nor should we expect it to be a model paper.
I mean when people say Vajiram is crap because their questions dont come in UPSC, I disagree. But my disagreement is not on the part that it is crap. I disagree with the fact that one should expect same questions in UPSC Pre.
My grievances (with VR) are more on the side of their History paper for GS Pre totally focusing on Ancient & medieval, though what UPSC will always ask is Modern, post 1857. At least the majority of questions will be post 1857, in fact post 1905! BUt for some reason, despite my talking to the teacher, the History portion of GS is still Battle of Mysore and etc.
At least with GKT, there is one thing that the kind of questions asked basically tell us what things we need to focus on when we study, because that is what they are asking in the test. And if you're able to answer their questions, then probably you are studying the right things.
It is again, best for working people or those outside Delhi, not taking any other test series.
In fact, what we can do is even glance through the paper and make a list of topics that one needs to study from their test series.
See, the benefits are only as much as you can extract from it.
