Could someone please explain how these two are related to each other ? Sea floor spreading takes place due to eruption of magma and plate tectonics due to convection currents. Both seems to be moving the plates ??
Sea floor spreading concept was given by Henry hess.according to him sea floor at divergent plate boundaries are expanding.this is mainly due to plate moving away from each other.further this expansion could be seen at mid oceanic ridges like mid Atlantic ridge and mid Indian ocean ridege.Pacific ocean does not have a central mid oceanic ridge but it has numerous minor ridges. there is another plate boundary called convergent plate boundary.along this boundary tectonic plates move towards each other with one plate subsiding into another.these are also called destructive plate boundaries as it result into destruction of oceanic crust and are mainly found along ocean trenches like Mariana trench.so in a way a balance is maintained with convergent boundary destroying Crystal surface and divergent boundaries creating new crust. convectional currents are the force behind plate tectonics.they are produced inside earth(aesthenosphere) due to radioactive decay.the existence of conventional current as the force responsible for plate movement was propounded by Arthur Holmes. Plate Tectonics explains the process of Continental Drift and associated phenomena. It explains it through three types of boundaries : 1. Convergent (Destructive) 2. Divergent (Constructive) 3. Transform
Further, these are caused due to Convection Currents.
Sea Floor Spreading falls under Divergent plate boundaries. Divergent Boundaries in the ocean floor cause Sea Floor Spreading. Generally, not always, they are in the middle of the ocean floor. (Mid-Oceanic Ridge)
