  • Mtnl sir
  • Go here for some decent reviews: ISPs in ORN

    Prima Facie it would appear:
Airtel: Best w.r.t. quality but exorbitant cost.
MTNL: Moderate / Average in all aspects but good value for money.
Ten to Ten: Cheap / OK (sort of) / Value for money.

Other than this, for wireless broadband (dongle) these are a few options:
    TATA Photon, MTS, Tikona, Hathway

At the end of the day, you've got to choose anyone of them since all of them are ridiculous (more or less) :D
P.S. Ever heard of local ISPs viz. ANI Network, Spectranet, Pacenet etc.? How are they? Any reviews?
  • I have been using Spectranet for 5 months (1 MBPS, Rs 1000, unlimited data; installation cost: Rs 500; connection through LAN, not router).

    1. Speed remains consistent at 1 MBPS, and I've never noticed the speed dropping. They throttle the torrent downloads, though, so you wouldn't get speeds around 1 MBPS while using torrent. Frankly, I consider it a blessing in disguise.

    2. Sometimes the net does get disrupted, but I've never noticed it going off for more than an hour, and it has happened some 3 times in 5 months for me. I don't know what'll happen in the monsoons, but I've heard that their customer response is good.

    3. Few of my friends have taken cheaper connections, but Spectranet has been satisfactory.
  • @HugorHill, what speed u get while using torrent?
  • @jacknolan: Initially it was very low. I don't remember the exact speed, sorry.

I use mu-torrent. There I changed the preferences to "forced connection". (Preferences -> BitTorrent -> Protocol Encyption: Outgoing -> change to Forced).

Now I get a max speed of 120 kbps, and an average of around 100 kbps for the "good" torrents (ie, those with high no. of seeders).
  • Airtel broadband. Costly though.
  • There is this TIKONA net service. 750rs 4mbps 30gb. After that 512kbps unlimited. But they are demanding two months advance. Anyone using this? Any review? Any other cheap connection?

Bhai tikona barbaad hai. Dont go for that.

bhai never ever think of tikona. We used tikona for 3 months and most of the time their service was down.Their customer care is most pathetic.

When you will ask them to disconnect they will take ages to collect the device and when done they will ask for some dues.from us they asked around 900.When we asked that our all dues are cleared as we had prepaid connection they insisted that you have some dues and you have to pay else we will sue you.I am still getting legal mails from them but i don't care now.
