On first look it seems that Pub Ad syllabus has undergone a major overhaul. Many new topics have been added and syllabus looks huge !!!
P-2 doesnt seem to have much change and whatever change is there it has only linked pub ad more and more to GS. So, i am not complaining. P-1: There is change, 2-3 new thinkers have been added apart from addition/expansion of some topics.Overall, 20-25% change. But nothing undo-able.
have been checking this speculation thread since a month now.. insiders news propped every now and then... but nowhere it seemed confirmed grapevine.. mere waste of time.. delay has further fueled this thread , more into guess business. some say gala change, some amygdala change. hope upsc soon puts every speculation to rest,;
ps- baffling is the point that they couldnt do it yet, although they have already taken extra 4 months
literature subjects seem to be most targeted followed by other popular optionals to bring them at par with science optionals. students used to opt literature subjects even without any previous background since the syllabus was short and scaling favored these subjects but things have changed now! upsc too wanted to end this unnecessary advantage that an aspirant has in literature optionals by restricting it to aspirants having a graduation degree in it but widespread criticism forced it to withdraw the proposed changes. so, now upsc has decided to go the other way round! it has made the syllabus of literature optionals extremely lengthy and many new topics have been added to it. in telegu literature nearly 60 percent of syllabus is changed in paper 1 and 100 percent in paper 2. so, previous years papers have become useless for reference! the syllabus too seems unmanageable to say the least! and don't expect the question papers to be easy either! this is deliberately done so that students do not opt their optional subjects based on short syllabus ! i don't think coaching walas would be happy about these syllabi changes! they will have to cover the extremely lengthy syllabus which will take a lot of time ( and literature subjects does not help in gs papers at all!) and since the syllabus is new, upsc can frame thousands of questions from even a single topic every year but coaching walas can't go that deep due to time constraints and aspirants have to prepare for other papers too! same is the case with history, geography and public administration!
by taking this step, upsc has brought popular optionals at par with rare optionals in terms of syllabus and difficulty level of question papers! upsc feels that if syllabus of two optional subjects is equally lengthy and difficulty level of papers is almost the same, then why would a science graduate opt a popular optional at all? it would be wise for him to opt a subject based on his interest only and if he/she is not interested in any of the subjects ( that's the case with many!), then it would be better to opt one's graduating subject since at least one has some information about it and have to face questions related to it during their personality test. so, upsc has taken step in the right direction and i am happy about it but still keeping my fingers crossed until official notification comes out! many may disagree with me but it's my perception only and perceptions may vary!
Also, though i don't have any insider but in all probabilities this is the new syllabus for all the optionals. Also, I have heard that there is major overhauling in literature subjects.True?
@andy133 I guess you said something about syllabus on Mohanty's notice board. Did you get a chance to check it and does the information posted here wrt PA syllabus correlates?
