Got 79.33, found test quiet difficult. Giving first attempt in 2016.
Query- i don't have ncert moreover reading it online makes it cumbersome for me , gave the test on knowledge gained by standard book, newspaper reading and general awareness. All those who read ncert and gave test plz tell am i missing something which can't be covered via satandard books + newspaper. Is reading ncert compulsory? Do reply , any senior plz help.

Would suggest you read NCERTs definitely end-to-end . They are easy to understand and written in simple language, will help you build strong basics. Moreover, Insights is pretty much following the syllabus it has mentioned in the time table, so you can see NCERTs are required as most questions derived from there.
I am studying from the online books too, a little cumbersome agreed, but you get used to it once the flow is built. Else you may purchase some NCERTs if need be or ask your younger siblings/cousins to lend you for the time-being
