An aspirant writing Mains sent me his answer in ethics for feedback.
As I have naturally been good at ethics ( got 105+ always), I thought to write the answer and present it before you so that can develop some insights.
Here it is:
Truth can have mutiple forms and all of them can be true. Exemplify. ( 10 marks)
A proper answer can be written as follows:
Introduction
Knowledge in accordance with fact or reality can de defined as Truth. For example, the statement “ sun rises in the east” is true. However, this truth can have mutiple forms as one can say that it is the not that the sun rises but it’s the earth that rotates.
Classic example of mutiple forms of truth and all being true
Different blind men trying to define an elephant by touching it would define it in various different ways. On would define it as a trunk of tree, other as a rope, another as a wall, so depending upon on the part of the elephant’s body they touch, they access truth in different forms , all of them being equally True.
Real life example
Humanity has suffered from divisions and conflicts based on religion. However, all religions are mere diiferent interpretations of the same God.
Thus, the recent events of religious conflict in India such as forced chanting of ‘Jai Shree Ram’ or mob lynching based on cow are all unwarranted.
Way forward
As taught by Syadvada of Jainism, truth is relative and hence we must be tolerant towards all forms of truth and not indulge in false belief of absolute truth. However, at the same time we must posses scientific temper to analyse truths.
Conclusion
For a cohesive society, we must conform to the fact that truth has mutiple forms, else fragmentation and conflicts would continue abated.
