Hi. I am getting 124 by forumias key and 122 by Shankar key. 2nd attempt this time, got 109.34 the last time. I have never read the newspaper and scored decent marks in mains without it. So the first lesson I feel is that if one is not comfortable reading the newspaper then it is absolutely alright. You should ideally read it but don't fret over it too much if you are not comfortable. Instead go for vision compilation. Second advice would be to try and read as much as possible (different sources) because small little things that stick in our mind can help eliminate options (specially in 2018 and 2019 paper). Another thing that I would like to mention is the role of test series. I gave 30 odd tests last year. Gave just 5 this year. The reason behind giving lesser tests was that a) the quality of test series is nowhere near the real prelims. I never find time to revise and re revise 30 tests. It is a herculean task according to me.
Csat is a strong area for me so never gave any mock test for csat. Bold guesswork is becoming very crucial these days. I do not like this trend because then it becomes a test of knowledge and luck both but then very little we can do about it.
Thanks.
I am agreeing to most of your things .Last time I scored 120 and this time somewhere near about 122 .I like reading newspapers .But when it comes to test I prefer solving vision full.length 15 tests ..that's it.I have tried baba and Insights once but I feel wo mere aukat ke Bahar the.Toppers say solve 80 test .I really wonder where do they get time. .But, we should respect toppers, should'nt we ? Regarding reading a lot.10000% I agree with you .It is the most important thing.Small small things that we read somewhere help us in prelims . In the end Luck is important in prelims .I feel myself immensely lucky to score these marks in prelims. Good luck for Mains
I might be wrong but I have observed one thing that those who solved large number of mocks have been able to get good marks probably well above the predicted cut off. It's not that they had more knowledge than the others but solving huge number of mocks might have brushed up their guessing power. I think there's some correlation between your guessing skills and number of mocks you solve. More you solve better you get at it.
