Essay - 136 GS 1 - 92 GS 2 - 103 GS 3 - 110 GS 4 - 108 Sociology Paper I - 146 Sociology Paper II - 153 Mains Total - 848 PT - 116 Final Total - 964 Not Recommended Interview Board - Ajit Kumar Bhonsle Duration - 13-15 minutes
Last attempt, 4th Mains, 3rd interview. Bye bye
Years of hardwork.. Rubbished by those 13-15 minutes.. Makes me realize how much life can be unfair.. Feel for you bro.. This is not what you deserve.. May you get strength to overcome this
I have a query. I am hugely disappointed with marks in one of the papers, more precisely, in an optional paper. I am already in Services. Seeing the trend of marks in the particular paper and my own experience in UPSC, I genuinely feel that I have been allotted at least 30-40 marks less than deserved.
So, Is there any credible process of confirming marks with UPSC/ some sort of scrutiny/ recheck / RTI? Anything? Has anyone successfully tried anything similar in past OR there is no way but to accept the marks which have been allotted.
Thanks.
Bhai there isn't any.
I got 157 and 85 in the two papers of optional in 2016, and my initial feeling was I had written paper 1 better. I was completely speechless, and missed final cut off by 23 marks.
Had I wasted time over that, I would've screwed 2018 prelims as well. Haan agar agla attempt nahi dena hai to you can try, and agar kuch credible mil jaye to share with me as well. ATB.
Heyy dude.. Didn't you get into service ? You missed 2017 final cutoff by 4 Mark's I guess.
Correction: I would've screwed 2017 prelims as well. Coz I did screw 2018 prelims.
AIR 537 in CSE 2017. Indian Ordnance Factories Service.
Haha.. sry I remember bcoz I was in same boat as you.. missed final list by 12 and 11 Mark's respectively in CSE 2016 and 17.. couldn't clear prelims 2018 as was undergoing training in ITBP..
So giving this attempt?
Yep. Fortunately studies on track this time. What you about you..??

Most devastating thing I have ever seen. Makes me feel like whether I am only wasting time behind this lottery exam. 15 min interview what will they even judge in 15 minutes!

That's unfortunate. So, bottom line is, UPSC's word is final. Nothing after that. What if someone gets drastically low score like unbelievable marks in a particular paper, which may be likely due to some clercial error. No recourse even then?
You can file an RTI, but I don't think anything will come out of that. So I would suggest better focus on prelims if appearing again this year.
Sure Bhai. ATB to you too. Thanks for replying.
One of my friends took a literature optional and same as language paper. She failed the language paper by 1 mark. She filed an RTI but upsc replied they checked again and there is no change in her marks. I an not sure they checked though.
Can you file RTI for any mistakes in addition or for rechecking ,dear. I read somewhere that there is a recent SC verdict for making available the certified copies of answer sheet. I am not very sure though .
You can file RTI for anything. No restrictions. Point is they would not give you any information of the kind you want. In September last, UPSC was granted exemption in RTI as far as secrecy of exam is concerned.

OMG! Really sympathise with you. What great marks, deserves to be in top 50। Very bad luck mate. May God give you enough courage to overcome this .
13-15 mins, thats very unlikely. Usually its 30 mins. Bad or good, they extend it till 30 mins, to see for sure. I hv been screwed in interview too, but they took good enough to do that tho

Mine lasted 18-20 mins; P K Joshi board.
how much marks did they award you, i m looking for some correlation bw marks given and time of interview. My theory is , very poor marks means lower time, or very high time like 40 mins (they are confused about u so they take time to judge properly). The people who are in 25-30 mins zone score averagely

I was devastated on the interview day as I never thought in my wildest dream that years of hard work and experience will go in vain just because you have 15 minutes of bad slot. That too for which I am not 100% responsible. I was the last member to go at 5:35 pm and came out at approximately 5:50 pm and made first call to one of my friend at 5:52 pm. Bhonsle asked just one question. The board members were not very cordial, looked disinterested and in a hurry to wrap up the interview as soon as possible. Even after giving clarification on some answers M1 was not very convinced that what is my actual role in audit. For his ignorance, will I have to pay the price? The question on L1 & L2 bidding followed by which opens first financial or technical bid, which I with humility clarified that I am not aware or sure about it as I don't go on field audit. To this Bhonsle intervened and asked me to apply logic and tell M1 that which opens first (Bhonsle has years of experience in contract and tendering when he was in defense). On his insistence I gave wrong answer and justified, which I think was not a big deal because I have already cautioned them about my lack of exposure to field audit and overall audit process. Lady member (M3) was at the edges of her seat looking very agitated from inside. I think she was desperately in hurry to go home. I was shocked by her tone of asking the question. Sociology is your optional tell me what is malthusian theory. I had faint idea but already planned that I will not guess or bluff and said that "Sorry mam I have not read it in my sociology optional'. That's it, your domain knowledge have been tested based on one question. Then lady asked "Cooking is your hobby, Bhindi kaise banaoge" (literally in Hindi). I replied that it depends on the variety of Bhindi that I am going to cook. I was elaborating various ways of cooking Bhindi to which she ruthlessly interrupted and told me to just tell me "How you will cook Bhindi". Then I answered quickly the process of making Bhindi fry. M4 (psychologist - I am almost confirmed) was not even able to frame question correctly, expecting me to give short and crisp answers, which I did. He was interrupting too much without allowing me to complete my answers.
I still had the faith in the process that they will accommodate the time factor while awarding the marks. But they didn't. Everyone knows that in other interview process if a board is not convinced that a candidate should got more marks the duration of interview is extended (atleast 35-40 minutes) to give the candidate time to recover or come back and test him in almost all aspects possible. I have never felt such injustice in my life. This concludes that weightage of mains marks is zero even after scoring 74 marks above the cut off. Having 90-100 marks of range in interview is absurd. Are they making fools of us by conducting 9 papers in mains.
