Sir, what about marking in geology?? ..Which paper is will fetch high marks?.
By completing Banger and Mukherjee , how many questions can be attempted in papers?

It depends more on your strengths regaring the topics...if you are from geography background you'll likely to find paper1 more comfortable..however the checking in paper2 is much more liberal I think..
With bangar n Mukherjee roughly 70-80% one can attempt..
    sir kindly reply
which are the medical test in forest service
    apart from the walking/marathon test
are medical guys lenient or strict
Medical tests to a certain extent depend on the hospitals also..mine was in RML and the people there were kind of lenient..In medical, issues come only if you don't satisfy the height criteria or if you have colour blindness..

    Sir,
In the optional papers of Geology and Forestry do we need to cover current affairs also related to the topics? Or are the answers more of static nature? Please advice.
    Thanks a lot.

No need to focus on current for optionals.. questions are mostly static and some applied..

You can start your geology preparation with the book
    1. "Engineering Geology" by KM Bangar..
It's a very nice book written in a lucid manner to give you a clear understanding on most topics mentioned in the syllabus..
    Bangar can be supplemented with
    2. 'A textbook of geology by P K Mukherjee..This book covers the topics not covered by Bangar such as paleontology
These two books needs to be your basic study materials..Do repeated readings to have more clarity..
Once you get a hold of the subject, you can go for specialised books for paleontology, Indian stratigraphy, and crystallography

For Indian stratigraphy section, you can read selected topics from,
    3. "Fundamentals of historical geology and stratigraphy of India" by Ravindra Kumar..

For detailed understanding of Paleontology do selected readings from
    4. Fossils in earth sciences by Anis Kumar Ray

Crystallography section of Bangar and Mukherjee could be supplemented with
    5. Tulane University notes for crystallography

For rest of the topics one can use Google and YouTube..

Always the focus should be on KM Bangar and PK Mukherjee..

    Thanks...

  • @rembrandt sir, this is my last attmpt for any govt job. Earlier i wrote but i used to qualify for civils and not for ifos. In last attmpt fortunately i qualified for both. My 1 optional is maths and other is foresty. I never read foresty earlier. Can you tell me is this manageable in 1 month time? seeing ur struggle, past foresty papers and syllabus, i am not sure whther i can give decent answers or not. I saw ur commnt regarding books. But can we manage this in 1 month? kindly give me some pointers.

you can very well prepare forestry within this period brother..don't wait for anything n start ur prep right away..since u have maths as one optional u can concentrate on forestry..start reading manikandan n Rishav Gupta notes..group study will be beneficial at this to get a clear conceptual understanding on topics..try to score well in mains so that interview doesn't become a deciding factor..

  • Can anyone help regarding color blindness test. I'm partially CB as I fail Ishihara test. What is the other test they conduct( some lantern test afaik, but it's available in few hospitals), and do partially CB people pass it at all?
I don't want to end up in a situation where I spend so much time on 2 new optionals with the possibility of being disqualified. Thanks.

It's good if you can give scientific names..it gives an impression that you have seriously studied forestry..in any case you have to remember the scientific names of min 15-20 trees..
  • Thank you,Sir

Anyone with botany optional, please let me know here or through DM.

I'm in a panic mode. I have a bachelor's in biology, thought botany can be covered. Now I've seen 3-4 strategies on YouTube and I'm scared seeing the number of books that need to be referred. If there are any senior botany players, pls help me out. What can the subject be covered in this limited time?
