Where to start for 2019, new to Philosophy

hello, I am new to Philosophy subject with minimal knowledge of the subject... where should I start my prep for Philosophy?

For Indian Philosophy should I start with CD sharma or Datta Chatterjee or some other source.
Any other source for western Philosophy except Y. Masih? that book is so so hard...

thanks

Abhi initially toh CD sharma se padho...Dutta Chatterjee bakwaas book hai
  • Get your concepts right even before you touch any book. watch some good videos by keeping syllabus in mind and then come to book.once thoughts are moulded a little bit then perhaps reading book may help.
  • both CD and Dutta are nice books..Dutta is better to read..like a novel..

Many reasons to still remain happy.

ok thik hai... Western philosophy ka koi alternative? Y Masih is very difficult

  • Philosophy is the mother of all the other subjects as they say. And hence it can't be expressed if one doesn't understands it from an unbiased and neutral perspective. Start with understanding Philosophy as a subject rather than just starting to read about thinkers and philosophers. It would be easy to understand thought processes of different human beings if one understands the real basis and application of the subject. Y. Masih is an over-rated book just because it presents almost the entire syllabus as far as Western Philosophy is concerned and hence students prefer it. I couldn't hold it for more than 15 minutes because it was too linear (one at a time kind of approach) and philosophy may bore you like nothing else if its not well-written and explained. Sources for optional subjects can be diversified and used intelligently in order to get good results especially for subjects like Philosophy.
