SBI PO and UPSC

I have cleared SBI PO exam (1st attempt). I have two UPSC attempts left. I am not able to make up mind whether to join or not. There is a 3 year bond stipulation with SBI. Also many have told me that I will not be able to prepare for UPSC side by side. I am 28 now. Guys help. Thanks.

Actually aapki jitni age hai uspar SBI chodna risky ho Sakta hai
What you can do is take out some time from office work for UPSC preparation

Baat toh sahi hai. Risk toh hai. Baaki exams mein bhi ek ek attempt hi hai hala ki mains ek bhi attempt nahin diya bakiyon mein. Dekhte hain. UPSC ko chod nahin sakta.

Bhai State PCS ka haal toh sabko pata hai. UP PCS ke pichle 5 saal ke exams ki CBI enquiry chal rahi hai. Wahan toh jaana bewakoofi hai. Isliye abhi tak nahin diya. UPSC mein toh interview tak de chuka hoon. Baat age ki nahin hai. Attitude ki hai. Main toh koi aur exam ki taraf dekhna bhi nahin chahta par family pressure hai. Thodi himmat dikhani padegi. Risk toh hamesha hi rahega.

    You can consider the following:
    1. Under probation period pay is less and getting leave is very difficult
    2. PSBs have initial 3 years posting in remote or rural areas, where access to a lot of resources otherwise available will be tough.
    3. With 32 years of service left, how much high in the hierarchy can you achieve
    4. Post probation, certainty of career path
    5. Work pressure and the focus on sales in almost all banks is same
    6. If you convert Pre, will prep for Mains be possible- I think may be not
    7. What stage of prep are you in- some have prepared well and can manage with 2-3 hours daily while working
    8. What are your financial commitments?

Most importantly will you be able to work with full dedication and be able to do justice to your potential?

Join Sbi.. Main issue is age and family pressure to settle.. It doesn't matter in upsc preparation if u have reached interview or got out in prelims-unless u want to join coaching institute in orn or m.nagar

Bond etc don't matter-if u clear upsc- aacha sa lawyer karke rafa dafa karwa dena sbi bond of 3 yrs..indian courts and judiciary are always helpful

Knew a girl.. She left bank po job and focussed on upsc.. She was 28 yrs when left job in 2014; upsc nahi nikala - maximum exams se disqualify ho gayei due to age--computers field mei degree thei-knowledge outdated ho gayei.. Last year Als ke reception pe baith tei thei - abh pata nahi..

    That's horrific incidence...
  • Hey hiiii yaar...i work in sbi myself ....so i can say that its quite hectic out here...but here is the catch.. If u dont want to make career in sbi then you could easily get leaves for studying like i do by goin on leave without pay...actually u should join sbi bt if u are focussed enough u would find ways to study...good luck ...ask anything if required

I understand all the Pros and Cons. Real issue is the 3 year bond. UPSC grilled one candidate last year about the same and rightly so. Breaking a bond is like breaking trust. Something a guy with high integrity will never do. There is no dearth of dedication. Have already left a couple of opportunities for UPSC. Well it is about time this time around. Testing times!

Bond does matter and it is not about the money. Will have to pay them 2 lacs which is easily manageable after say a 6-8 months service if one gets a pay of around 60k pm. Issue is about integrity. UPSC destroyed a guy last year when they came to know about his bond with another company. Moreover, if a sign a bond with SBI then I won't be able to get leaves easily. Will have to be at the branch for 6 days and sometimes even on Sundays. SBI PO does not get leaves! UPSC prep is like a full time job itself. It is what it is. Last but not the least, the example you gave is just not right. When you prepare well for an exam like UPSC then you get enough knowledge to even start your own coaching and earn lacs. Becoming a receptionist is just not right.

Thanks man. I know I can find ways to study. Issue is the Bond period. UPSC does not take it lightly. They literally bashed a guy out of contention last year for the same. Need to be careful before signing with any organisation asking for T&C like that.

Almost everyone that I have spoken to has said the same thing - "Bhai time nahin milega!". Will choose wisely. Thanks.
  • Bhai bada khatarnak situation hai. Mere bhi family se pressure mil rahi hai dusra koi job lene ka.. Lekin maine ye last attempt ka permission and money liya hai. Gharwalo se bol diya hu this time I will get 1st rank. Dusra koi exam nahi dunga. Aapke tarah hi decision nahi le pa raha tha. BPSC form bhara hu lekin dene nahi jaunga.
    मैं खुद को साबित..इस बार UPSC को..syllabus का पूरा..मतलब एकदम से खुद को..आप समझ रहे हो न..
