  • Thanks for the initiative sir.
Could u please give a broad approach for those who are beginning with forestry and geology preparation after CSE mains on how best to utilize the 2 months ?
  • Can you please help for geology optional. Any guidance on how to start or what to focus on?
Trivedi zinda hai. Par abhi lapata hai.
Uske milne par result aa jayaga
  • Could you please give some guidance in regards with GS paper preparation. I wish to know if there is some monthly CA compilation that covers most of the question of IFOS GS paper.
To be yourself in a world that is constantly trying to make you something else is the greatest accomplishment.
  • You can start your geology preparation with the book
    1. "Engineering Geology" by KM Bangar..
It's a very nice book written in a lucid manner to give you a clear understanding on most topics mentioned in the syllabus..
    Bangar can be supplemented with
    2. 'A textbook of geology by P K Mukherjee..This book covers the topics not covered by Bangar such as paleontology
These two books needs to be your basic study materials..Do repeated readings to have more clarity..
Once you get a hold of the subject, you can go for specialised books for paleontology, Indian stratigraphy, and crystallography

For Indian stratigraphy section, you can read selected topics from,
    3. "Fundamentals of historical geology and stratigraphy of India" by Ravindra Kumar..

For detailed understanding of Paleontology do selected readings from
    4. Fossils in earth sciences by Anis Kumar Ray

Crystallography section of Bangar and Mukherjee could be supplemented with
    5. Tulane University notes for crystallography

For rest of the topics one can use Google and YouTube..

Always the focus should be on KM Bangar and PK Mukherjee..
  • Sir ,please advise on Forestry .Manikandan sir's book is with me.Do I need to buy Evolution IAS material?
And also for English , please advise some good book .
  • For forestry:
    Start with the book
1.Indian Forestry by K. Manikandan and S. Prabhu.
It's basically a guide type book which covers almost all topics of the syllabus..But it doesn't always give you conceptual clarity..for which you can get the help of
2.Forestry notes of Rishav Gupta..He had read all the standard texts of forestry and made an awesome note..you can get his notes from his blog...
    https://www.google.co.in/amp/s/rishavgupta.wordpress.com/2014/06/22/my-notes/amp/

These two will suffice for most topics of the syllabus..You can also read
    3. Principles and Practice of Silviculture by L.S. Khanna...and
    4. Forest Management by Prakash Ram..if u need more conceptual understanding..
you can also Google for certain topics..

Anyways the focus needs to be on Manikandan n Prabhu..

In forest, they have a tendency to ask questions from the static part.. especially in history they ask ancient n medieval..current they will mainly ask for science n tech..for which gktoday will suffice..

Evolution material I have seen is not very useful.. don't know if they have any latest versions of that..For English, grammar part is crucial..I have read a book by s c gupta published by arihant..

you can improve on your geology score..you can get above 200 there..do selected readings from specialised books for paleontology, Indian stratigraphy n crystallography.. English also one can get near 160..in forestry, 20-30 marks jump is possible..

Hello sir is self study sufficient for forestry? Are there any crash courses for the same, that might speed up the process. Considering i have no clue about my second optional either (botany)
    2017 : P,M. Far from interview cutoff
    2018 : P,M*
Anthropology - PM me if you're looking for any kind of collaboration for CSE 19 with anthro.

some of my friends attended Shankar in the past..they said it's ok for forestry but not that good for geology..since I haven't attended or watched their lectures, I can't comment on that..

self study is good enough for forestry..while coaching is not necessary, group study will be beneficial..
  • Sir, what about marking in geology?? ..Which paper is will fetch high marks?.
By completing Banger and Mukherjee , how many questions can be attempted in papers?
Any fool with a bit of luck can find himself born into power.

But earning it for yourself, that takes work.

It depends more on your strengths regaring the topics...if you are from geography background you'll likely to find paper1 more comfortable..however the checking in paper2 is much more liberal I think..
With bangar n Mukherjee roughly 70-80% one can attempt..
