I used to be a fan of sony vaio, unfortunately the production has ceased.

However i can vouch for HP for their build quality. (Others may differ though)

You choose anyone from the below link,

    https://www.hpshopping.in/laptops-tablets.html?hp_facet_os[0]=Windows+10+Home+64&hp_facet_os[1]=Windows+10+Pro+64&hp_facet_os[2]=Windows+10+Home+Single+Language+64&hp_facet_processortype[0]=Intel+Core+i3&hp_facet_processortype[1]=Intel+Core+i5&p=2&price=34401-54960

You will just have to make a decision about the processor, RAM and Operating system.

The above link has choices for i3 and i5 processors, 4 and 8 GB RAM with Windows 10 OS.

i5 means better computing and 8 GB means faster computing.

However, i3 and 4GB will also serve your purpose perfectly!!!! I am currently using it.

    All the best!
  • Non gaming student :D
Vaio band kyu kiya in log ne yaar
Hp utna sahi nahi h. Kafi hang hota h. But then option bhi kya hi h.
Macbook hi lelo thoda sa budget badha k :p
  • I had the same expectations for a laptop and recently bought Dell Vostro 3468. It has 1TB memory + good battery backup (most important for me) + i3 ( which suffices for your requirements).. it was for 28k... Apart from this, HP laptops are also good as @pizzza has suggested
We cannot change the cards we are dealt, just how we play the game.
  • Lapatop se acha hain inpad le lo
  • If gaming is not ur option then choose any good brand laptop. I hav HP i5 4 GB 1TB from last 5 yyears. HP provides very good ASS. Motherboard got damaged due to improper power supply in train - HP repaired it within a week. Keyboard- 6 keys stopped working - bcoz I think I used Colin to clean the keyboard improperly- keyboard + body replaced within a week that too at my home. I had taken extended warranty of 3 years. Till have hav upgrade RAM to 8GB. Will upgrade to SSD 250 GB soon.
HDD performance will deteriorate with time - so take a laptop which has option to swap an SSD ( I guess most laptop now days have it).
Now main concern- good battery - it ll depend on ur procrssor and storage. i3 + SSD give better backup. U can upgrade to SSD whenever u want. Never fully charge ur battery- maintain cycle of 20-80%.
Also whenever at home try NOT to use laptop on battery- remove it. Also if using this method- use battery atleast once a week.
Simple maths- laptop battery has 6 cells ( 18650 cells mainly of Panasonic) of Li ions. Each cell has life cycle of around say - 1200 ( it ll not be useless after this but its efficiency will reduce by 20%). So battery will last for 1200 Cycle after that its Chargr storing capacity will reduce by around 20%. Lets say in a every day u use a laptop and it uses 3 cycles- means battery will last only for around 400 days.
If u use ur battery alternative days- it ll last 800 days. And if one week then - u can do the maths.
All in all ur battery will last as long as ur other components of laptops.
U can go with any laptop of HP. Infact do give a look at AMD. A series laptop- they have better performance w.r.t i3 at similar price. Donot spend above 30k for non gaming laptop.
  • HP laptop Accha hai par agar Kuch kharaab ho jaaye to Uske repairing cost aur parts expensive hai (if you haven't taken a warranty)

Dell easy to repair hai. Koi bhi component fit ho jaata hai. I'm using my Dell laptop for more than 6 years aur main khud se hi usko repair aur upgrade Kar leta hoon. Components easily aur cheaply available hai.

The day we decided that the worth of an individual was determined by their performance in an examination, that was the day Education failed us.

no magical formula , maybe it's because i used to watch a lot of movies and stuff on lappy and now my eyes hae become habituated to this routine

Ye to gajab hi ans h.

Waise kuch log wo liquid daalte h aankh mein. uski kya effectivity h?
    1 article padha tha.

Gist is. Zyada screen k saamne baithna is not a problem. But generally we tend to avoid blinking while concentratin too much on our work especially while watching movies and playing games. Due to this liquid of eye is not replenished.

So blink more. And keep screen brightness low..
Some one was saying liquid(jo bhi naam h) did not work much according to his friends..

When I was a student, I had a MacBook Pro. It served me well. However I am currently using a thinkpad and I have done so after heavy recommendations from one ForumIAS member who was a big IBM thinkpad fan.

What I have is Lenovo Thinkpad, i5. If you need an i5, get one or else if you can make do with i3, you can choose that one too.

Also try to get a 14 inches laptop as portability will be easy. They are rare and not easily available the last time I looked and yet expensively priced than 15 or 17 inches laptops for some reason .

If you can afford, I would recommend getting a SSD of at least 256 GB and replace it with the hard disk. The hard disk can be used as an external disk.

There are huge benefits of the SSD. The Boot up time reduces to 5 secnds ( like really ) and shutdown time is also less than 7 seconds.

The battery life is good, lasts four hours or so.

Thinkpads are very good, and if you want you can try them.

I am doing so right now, without regrets . Before that I owned a Dell vostro 2520 which lasted for four years. Before that I had a MacBook Pro which again lasted for 4-5 years until it got boring.

I would advice against getting an HP, since they are designed keeping in mind retail consumers and More like entrrtainment devices . The thinkpads are business laptops , so durability is damn good. They may not have Dolby and all that, but they are good enough.

PS. I have been a coder for past decade and may not have watched a single movie on my laptop in past ten years. Also I do not use my laptop for entertainment , but purely for work.
So take my advice with a pinch of salt just like every body else ‘.

If you plan to watch movies , I would still recommend the SSD for high start up time and having an external disk instead.

If you ping me, I can share the amazon link for the computer model I am talking about.

Bhai the key the less strain on eyes is matching the brightness of laptop to the lighting in the room.

In dark room, reduce brightness and in bright room, increase brightness.
  • Nothing against HP. They are durable, but they have huge heating issues and the fan makes a lot of noise after a few years .

So far no issues with Lenovo thinkpad, not Ideapad.
