Have the literature subjects been deliberately screwed up in 2017 mains?

Over a period of 4 years I have put in strenuous efforts to do well in literature. In view of my past performance and evaluation,I was eminently expecting not less than 60% marks in both paper.I did fairly well in essay and all GS papers.I have appeared for interview with the performance that is much worse than 2017 mains.I am shell-socked to find my roll on missing this time. Some people, I know, have qualified despite not doing well in their non-lit subjects as well as GS papers. I feel as if I have lost my bearings in a strange crossroads of my life. Could other lit candidates throw some light on this predicament???
