are the pages, I have read today. No one can predict 'Whether any question would come from these pages or not', but at least, it provides me a habit for studying for longer duration of hours.

Concentrated studies of 'The Hindu' with a 'logical reasoning mind' is the right approach to handle 'The Hindu' newspaper.

The most challenging part of the GS(P+M) is "Dynamic questions". So, giving more attention to the dynamic aspect of Newspaper 'gives more satisfaction' ! The static part of the syllabus is not 'going to go away anywhere'. They can be referred to, any time. Unassailable command over 'The Hindu' would help in, Dynamic questions of Pre & mains, Personality test, Essay writing, confidence building(which won't let you worry about the expected cut offs after the pre exams)

I, not only concentrate on the news, but I sincerely care about the following aspects while reading The Hindu
-writing style of the writer(which helps me in improving my own writing syle)
-analysis of the news of the writer (for answering Critically Examine/Comment type questions)
-curious background research on internet, for the different terms[relating to different topics]
-Quotations by different people, (today there was a line by Kapil Dev in the periscope page !)
    -New/Difficult words
    -Economy terms, (hedge fund/pension fund/QE/CAD/repo rate/ etc)
-Back ground check of the International News, as every present International news is inspired from the past "diplomatic trade offs".

    Lets see what happens. >:D<
  • today i dont read paper. from tomorrow atleast i will spend 5 minutes to write gist, so that my writing, analytical skills would improve.
  • @bhargavjoy nice attempt buddy. But u know what it wud be best if u write the relevant news from paper jn shortest form possible.. I will contribute too.
  • What are all the important things to be covered in "The HIndu" Today?

    Can Any one Suggest me?

    @Khan_IAS1

    Friend,
What I have "not" read today in 'The Hindu' Newspaper.(3 October 2013)
    -Sports
-Kerela youth dies in flat fire
    -Correction and clarification
-AMU extends the last day for submitting application for essay competition
-JDU suspends two MPs from party
    -BYJU's Classes advertisement(and other advertisements)

rest all read, word by word, made notes too.
    thanks.
  • I think rather then discussing it on a daily basis why not prepare weekly notes & then share them here. This way you would help others too.
The fault , dear Brutus, is not in our stars, / But in ourselves, that we are underlings .
  • @LuV
Hi Luv, nice to see you.
Does the notes made by someone else(/coaching) really help? Please explain, as I disagree with this premise/approach.
  • @ pandey ji...Is surely helps me..
Well for something which is long and conceptual, so it may be possible ,if you have made notes
yourself, then it becomes easy to memorize .
But I am really game for it..
Even we can share the responsibility depending upon our comfort area..
and we can go beyond hindu..to Express, Eco times/Business standard, Economist (asia ) , IDSA, Down to earth, PIB, and may be some other sources..

Pour your views and form a coherent strategy and may be we can take it to some other platform
such as google group or something like that where sharing and collaboration becomes fast and easy to
and with dedicated mind of some 4 to 5 people or at max upto 10 people,
as too many cooks spoil the broth.

    Please tag a person carefully.
From what I can figure out from your comment, let me suggest.
    And My suggestion is:

Let the time pass. Yes you have read it correctly. Some of the doubts are cleared at a personal level, personally. When you shall read the Newspaper for few more days, you shall be able to understand(rather judge) the significance of a particular news for CSE.
    i) Look at the syllabus
ii) Remember the questions of the previous year question paper
iii) Read an article, judge its significance, try to frame the 'UPSC type questions' from that article.

You should 'care about the following aspects too'

-writing style of the writer(which helps me in improving my own writing syle)
-analysis of the news of the writer (for answering Critically Examine/Comment type questions)
-curious background research on internet, for the different terms[relating to different topics]
-Quotations by different people, (today there was a line by Kapil Dev in the periscope page !)
    -New/Difficult words
    -Economy terms, (hedge fund/pension fund/QE/CAD/repo rate/ etc)
-Back ground check of the International News, as every present International news is inspired from the past "diplomatic trade offs".

    Thanks for asking.
  • @ abhithepandey
I am sorry , if I have offended you the way I tagged you.
    I think you misunderstood me.

I agree , your approach is right. but most of the serious aspirants are already into that mode.
What , I wanted to say is what you are doing with one newspaper, we can cover others too, not as
a whole but at least editorials, so we shall have diverse views.

  • @MisfitMedico
    Hi Bro,
    You misunderstood me. No problem.
Here in this forum, suppose You want to get attention of anyone. Lets say I want my friend @John_Carter to express his view on what we are discussing(now), then I have pressed the @ key followed by the username of the friend, to whom I want the message to be conveyed to. Here the thing to remember is that, the user name of the friend you are tagging should become "clickable".(look in the above comment there is a gap between @ and abhithepandey , I am not tagged) This is the only way you can get the attention of your friend to the discussion you want to. Like I am tagging you to get your attention. As I am tagging you, you shall get a notification on your 'profile' and thus you would be able to know that you have been tagged some where.

The problem here is that you are just trying to tag someone without really tagging someone. As you belong to medical field, you shall take some time to understand what I am trying to tell you.

Newspapers are a 'good' source of 'current' Information. Just to curb the effect of the coaching institutes what UPSC has started doing is , they have started asking opinion based question. UPSC has succeeded in what it really wanted to achieve.
According to me, The Hindu is the best 'NewsPaper' to be referred to for CSE preparation. It takes me more that 4 Hrs everyday to completely study The Hindu Newspaper. The Editorial of all other newspaers can be referred to be visiting a website called 'feedly.com'. So, Please try to tackle The Hindu at a time and then look for the other newspaper, (only)if you have time.

So, If anyone is suggesting me to visit few other newspaper then I can understand that 'He is a new guy in this UPSC game' (I am just 2 month old)

    Thanks
  • I beg to differ here with my friend @abhithepandey.
The sharing of notes would help aspirants who by any reason could not cover Hindu (for a day or two)& by sharing our notes here ,we would only help consolidate our own notes.
There might be some news or imp articles that one might have missed out upon while reading Hindu so by sharing our weekly notes we can reduce that possibility.
Also as i am in job(still)so it is not possible to dedicate 5-6 hrs for Hindu .Hence even Hindu can be divided into specific categories to be covered individually & at week's end we can club those notes.
    Just an idea though.
The fault , dear Brutus, is not in our stars, / But in ourselves, that we are underlings .
  • I second @LuV

@abhithepandey, My fault buddy. Will be more careful now onwards about this etiquette.
Seems need to put lot effort to catch up on preparation front as well.

But, again, Note sharing would be really beneficial to us poor souls who are working and can't devote much time for the news paper alone.
Yes, it has been a trend, but just reading only Hindu, would be disastrous.
Need to supplement it with Express + one financial news paper so we can form divergent views, as I and for that matter most junta find it too socialistic.
You may have observed regarding GM crops, there were 6-7 articles on this topic in Hindu,
and only one was for it, rest all were against it.
Another topic, Capital Punishment, It seems like Hindu is publishing only articles who propose to abolish it.
So you might never have chance to look at other side, if we are just following Hindu.
    That's all I meant to say !

  • Appreciate luv's idea.
  • @LuV @MisfitMedico
I love this place brothers. See how nicely we are putting our points, staying at the 'places of our choice'.
    Thanks Internet.

Brothers, when I say that I read The Hindu Newspaper, I just don't read it.

I think it. I try to analyse the matter from all the possible perspective. I speak the sentences that I think so that I can write them too, when needed. That is why I take so much time. (May be that you get selected !!!, no regrets !!! )
Reading an article in English, not thinking about it, is the-work half done. I consider myself as a very ordinary guy. I have free oxford dictionary in my Nokia C2-00. I do refer to the difficult words whenever I find one. To the best of my knowledge I have not left a single 'tough' word, out of my ignorance/laziness.
My strategy for the preparation of "Dynamic part of GS is to honestly follow The Hindu and then you can refer to feedly for various other sources".
Friends, what I have figured out after reading the Hindu is that, there is no need of any magazine such as Civil Services Times/ Civil Services Chronicle et. al.
I have never been serious in reading such magazine because such magazine are only the compendium of the The Hindu Newspaper of the previous months.

If I shall have been a guy in job preparing, I shall have left the job. These are the days of my life which I had been looking(/waiting) for, since my childhood. Rote learning/ Dimwit teachers/ Rotten educational system is what I hated since my childhood. Be it Graduation or School, there was not much difference.

So all I want say is that, do what you think is apt for you, some of answers of the questions is solved at a personal level, personally.

If I shall have been a guy in job preparing, I shall have left the job. Preparing for CSE, while being in job is like, going to school knowing that you have not the 'Homework', you are scared about getting your dairy filled with teachers' complaint.
At last, this is your life and you have to decide, what is apt for you. Sitting outside your mind and then commenting like this, is very easy.

These are the days of my life which I had been looking(/waiting) for, since my childhood. Rote learning/ Dimwit teachers/ Rotten educational system is what I hated since my childhood. Be it Graduation or School, there was not much difference.

    @MisfitMedico

I suspect that you do not know the meaning of the English word "junta जून्टा "(google this word), which is way far different from the Hindi word "Janta जनता ".
