Poverty in India just 20 Percent?

edited October 2015 in Current Affairs
From calorie defined poverty to money defined.. Definations are not holistic in India.

If we consider Education, Health, Income, Opportunities, Infrastructure ( Like canal for farmers) i guess more than 50% people would be poor.

Also, can poverty be eradicated?
What efforts are required?

    True. Sorry. :| :)
  • I am also poor ...want to have bpl card..so to avail subsidy... L-)
    I vow to win.... !!!
  • If you want to assess relative poverty, not only 50% but 99% population is poor.

If you want to assess acute poverty, I can't say abut bihar, orissa, but in rajasthan, haryana, not more than 4% are poor.
  • 'Poverty is a state of mind'

  • Poverty is a relative concept... poor are only poor because society has rich ppl... there are two ways to eliminate poverty...
    १. Neutralize rich ppl and distribute their property equally..
    २. Raise all to the same level...

Both these results can't be achieved... so in society therw will be always rich and poor...
    I vow to win.... !!!

Incentives are how ppl feel... see in a society ppl want to rise above each other.. there are very few who want equality in society, everyone want to be more rich more powerful than the other and skip to the next level... this is the the incentive... when Microsoft was created, fb was created who would have thought they will become the richest in the world... ppl rise from ashes and top ppl also become ashes.. wealth is not everlasting in one's pocket ... to keep growing gives the insensitive... to be stable with the accumulated wealth give the insensitive...
    I vow to win.... !!!

Govt itself set bar low then then came with figure of 20%. I know lot of curruption in availing BPL but 4% is still too low. Farmers doing suicide, tribal population, urban slums, rural landless, labour seeking daily manual jobs may easily cross 4 percent.
