Environment doubt

What is emission trading?
How is it beneficial to countries?
How will it impact our environment?

Comments

Emission trading or cap and trade is a part of flexible mechanism provided in Kyoto protocol to Annex-I countries in order to achieve their binding GHG reduction targets.

In emission trading a country emits below its target and sells the remaining gap to another country which breaches its target.

Benefit here to receiving country is it escapes from punishment for breaching the target and benefit to the selling country is it gets money from trade.

Impact on our environment is emissions and harm to environment will be under control.

Kyoto protocol has some penalties for breaching the emission target. A country can escape from those penalties by transferring its extra emission to a underutilized country.
