What do you mean by Flagship scheme/ flagship programs of Govt of India?

What is the exact meaning of flagship scheme, and how is it different from the regular centrally sponsored schemes of GoI? Please reply, if possible with quoting the source.

"the best or most important one of a group or system" - dict

"typically the first, largest, fastest, most heavily armed, or best known." - WP

    Here's a good explanation : http://www.arthapedia.in/index.php?title=Flagship_Programmes

    Mostly "massive all India programmes"
    Prelims : 2/5; Mains : 0/2; Interview : 0; Remainder : 1+1 (Tired but not; Retired) / Medical Science / Kolkata / Nihilist extraordinaire | Thanks a lot...
  • Thanks a ton, @Madico7 :-)
I had huge troubles finding its meaning, and was thinking some technical meaning. Thanks :-)
