  • I had enrolled in 'The Emergence of the Modern Middle East - Part I' by the same university some time back. Starts today. But I don't think I can manage both. Just checked the one mentioned by @Etat, it looks good. I hope to ride along.

The problem with coursera is that they are increasingly offering courses which give only Verified Certificate for which they charge money and don't offer any free statement of accomplishment for successfully completing a course. It radically decreases the motivation to complete a course.
    :-(

^^ It used to be different earlier. But, this free availability of such courses is a good thing, so we better make use of it while it lasts. I agree that motivation is important, I dropped out of many courses for many reasons but I think the main reason is lack of motivation. Hope this thread helps us there. :)
    Prelims: 2; Mains: 0
  • ^^Basic motivation here to learn something relevant to CSE. These certificates don't really matter much in the real world, do they?
Tell me the procedure ..I m in ...btw how was your medical scienec paper @etat
Not my best. Hope it doesn't turn out to kill me. Missed many basic points. :(

  • Those who want to pursue verified Certificate mode, here is the trick, so far worked for me, Enroll the verified course and you get a chance to pay in 4 weeks(depend upon the duration of the course), score well, i mean scored +97% in all, and on the last date of the payment due, raise a request that you don't have a credit card so you can't pay, they will ask you to apply for financial assistant of Coursera, That's it, fill the form and you are done.

So far worked for me and some friends, finished 9 courses this year, All verified, paid nothing.

    Best of Luck.,
  • i m in.....great initiative

    2015 First Attempt
    Optional - History
  • I had earlier enrolled in the Yale University course on "Moral foundations of Politics" on Coursera. It was very interesting and in English too. yet, I found that i lost the zeal after sometime and could not complete the course. Work, anxiety about results and my ridiculously set target for number of books to read in this year didnt allow me focus on the course.

I dont like leaving things in between so I am first going to complete that course (I had downloaded the video lectures). Do post your takeaways on this group so that others can also learn something.

I'm about to finish that course. I didn't even read 5% of the suggested stuff. The videos are ample. I've been scoring 80-90% easily. Most questions are basic. I plan to do the same for this one too.

But the aim was never to score marks, remember? I loved the readings. The Elchmann in Jerusalaem stuff (The banality of evil) was thought provoking to say the least.

No. The idea was to learn. Scoring just confirms that you've learnt. Aim was never to get certificates. :)

  • So, I finished watching the week 1 lectures. I particularly liked the Climate Change case study at the end.

Bhutan's GDH and the impact of F.R.I.E.N.D.S. was very unexpected.

Anyone else done with it so we can discuss about the class.! :)
