What tablet (for reading) should i go for?

edited February 2015 in Tools & Technology
Now a days, we have lots of coaching and other reference material available in form of .pdf files, videos and then we have current affair websites, news websites etc.

Sitting on laptop all day or carrying it around (between table/chair and bed) makes life (and upsc preparation ) bit hell.... For example, other day i wanted to read a NCERT book by .pdf but left after few pages because of eye-stain and also all-day-starting-at-laptop irritates me.

I'm looking to buy a tablet, so please tell me:
What is appropriate size? 7" or 8" or more?
What is appropriate screen resolution?
My budget is not more than 10,000 at any cost. I have wi-fi available and no need of a SIM/Calling tab.

Note: One can not deny the fact that internet/pdf/videos/digital-content has taken at-least 60% space and books are left for 40% only.

Please friends, suggest something.

Please go for HP VoiceTab 7. The new one.

Its camera has flash and its display is better than Dell Venue. I use old Nexus, nothing beats it but unfortunately only its new version is avalaible now, costing 15K. Go ahead with HP!

  • Hi All,
I am also looking for a tablet device. I am even considering Yoga 2, which is kind of heavy but nice. It is bit expensive. Another device I am considering is a 8-9k Samsung device I saw in a store. Any reviews on Yoga 2 (portability is a problem ) here?

I am a little novice at latest consumer electronics developments. What would you recommend in a 10 inches screen size?

  • All, It will be great if you can post flipkart links when you refer to a certain model, instead of just saying Lenovo or Acer. That will really help novice people like us figure out the exact model of the device.

  • @neyawn Sir, If it is within your budget, go for iPad Mini. Its user interface is awesome, and typing is actually painless . So do consider it once before buying any Android device.
    Thank you. I will.
By the way, how much does the iPad Mini cost? How does it compare to iPad Air, which I heard is also very portable and lightweight ( Sorry if I sound newbie, but I really haven't ventured into the tabs market and have not done any research on this before )

    +1
    @Neyawn sirji, I own google+asus nexus 7 2012 android tab.
As the name says it is a 7' screen.
I solely use it to read tons of pdfs related to competitive exams prep.
I am not much pleased with the screen size and its aspect ratio wrt width and height.
reading experience is also not that great.
Diff ppl might have diff perceptions, I am telling you my experience only.
that is why I said go for a 10" screen if u want to use it for reading purpose and that too for a longer stretch.
im not much aware about the latest advancement but yes, google asus has 10" tab, even samsung has one in that segment.
I would again suggest you to do a good research before buying a tab.
    good luck

  • Screen size definitely matters here. I own a Smasung Galaxy Tab 3 (8inch) and reading on it is just average. If one wants a tab for purely reading purposes then make sure size is atleast 10 inches.
