Printer for preparation

I have shortlisted below 3 printers as per some reviews online
1.Canon LBP 2900B
2.Brother HL-L2321D
3.HP 1020Plus

Which printer will be best value for money? Please tell by your experience. Also how much pages it prints in one refill.
My main purpose is to print question papers for test series and printing some other notes.

  • Canon Pixma G1010

    Price - around Rs 7500

You can print ~3000 pages with Rs 450 original canon black ink + quality is very good for BW printing on pixma....

If you are damn sure about laser, then HP 1020 Plus hand down !

P.S. - If you are buying from amazon, make sure the seller is Appario or Virtual-Sales, coz other sellers mostly cheat by supplying defective products... these two are only hassle free genuine sellers...

I read on one thread that hp provides only introductory cartridge, need to buy new one after some time.
  • I have Canon LPB 2900 B, bougth it in 2016 from near by electronics shop. It is working excellent with no issues at all till now. Refilled it once in just Rs. 150/-

It was my first printer, don't know about others.

My advice is go for laser printer essentially.

  • I am also going to buy canon 2900b. can anyone tell what is the procedure for refilling? as i am not that well versed with printers, and have never used one, so do i have to do it myself or can i get it done? I am not based in delhi.

It can be filled at rs 250.
    Last longer than ink jet.
Search in your local market, or printing shops. They will do it for you.

    Nup, single side...
You can do odd - even printing. If want to use both side of the page.

Does it still provide 2 years warranty? Does it have any paper jamming issue ?

Is the cartridge provided in canon lbp2900 introductory as mentioned for HP 1020 (mentioned somewhere includes introductory cartridge with only half ink, need to buy new).
  • edited July 2
Introductory cartridge is normal with full ink in 2900B, I printed around 1500 pages before first refilling.

No paper jamming in ordinary case. Paper can get jammed when power goes off while paper is "half in and half out". Even then paper can be pulled back (and not forward) after removing cartridge. No big issues. (Not expert just my experience)

Don't know about linux, installation can be done by downloading software online, so anyone can check.

Refilling is easily done at any such printer selling/repairing shop. I think we should not try refill it on our own.

Odd Even pages printing effectively compensates both side printing requirement.

it is quite an old printer. is it still best in the market?
  • same doubt. the hp 1020 plus and canon 2900 lbp have similar price, but this one has even more functionality. So, will it be wise to invest in a relatively older printer with less functions but same price?

One difference I found is that toner capacity in HP m1136 is smaller than other two. HP 1020+ and Canon 2900 has 12A toner means 120 ml while m1136 uses 88A toner means 80 ml.

Bro.. If want to prepare UPSC use multifunction printers having scanner and copier function. Test paper upload to Xeroxing(copying) will be needed.

Although camscanner mobile app may be used for scanning but quality will be just OK.

Buy printers within range of Rs 10k max. Even 8k max limit is fine.

Offline store koi acche wala se bhi pta kar lo yaar. Maine to Ricoh SP 210SU liya hai 1.5 years back from snapdeal price quotation tha 6400/ after snapdeal festive discount. But I had to pay finally 4800/ after credit card discount. Abhi price dekho to 9600/ tak dikha rha(from 6400 to 9600) . Kaafi margin rahta hai sellers/companies ko.
Look for discount period if online shopping is only option.

Ricoh SP 111SU dekh lo.. If money is concern. Ye bhi fast hai aur UPSC ke preparation phase tak more than OK hoga use karana.

Aur ek baat idhar kuch months se price kaafi fluctuating dikha rha online pe. Otherwise you will get lot of options within 8-9k range.

Aur agar budget 10 k hai to go with Epson inktank models. These are not laser printers but cost of printing and filling inks will be very very less.

Laser printer me cartridge jabardasti change karana hota hai because they are programmed and made like so by all companies. Means pros n cons sab hai.

Agar main 8-9k kharch karata to inktank leta jarur.

    Look for this link:

Ricoh bhi bada brand hai globally. Ranking 3 hai globally. Printer jo mere pass hai its durable. Ricoh sp111su uses same cartridge and toner refill.

Initially cartridge will be half filled almost for every brand. And Ricoh will give you 1000 pages. Mujhe 970 around print hua.

80 gm refill toner will print 2000 pages officially and 1950 really. It costs around 600.
