    2017 ka badla
  • I scored 102.00 while cutoff was 102.66. i had also marked D in this question. What we shud do now. I lost 2.66 marks. ans is D i am sure here is the link http://glacierlandrcd.org/wp-content/uploads/2016/10/Gypsum-Literature-Final-2-24-151.pdf

  • Ambiguity is prima facie visible. Apart from that, a new phenomenon from prelims 2015-2017 is extreme crowding at one or two marks in a manner that, hundreds unlucky candidates at/around cut-off mark lose out. This occurred before also in upsc & in every exam. but when marks are halved from 400 to 200, its a horrifying situation in the prelims marking.

Nutshell : injustice has occurred & if neutrally adjudicated(without falling prey to the constitutional stature & autonomy of upsc & one-sided power of Supreme Court), the redressal is attempt in 2018 itself, if adjudged by the standards of whats quoted in emblem - Satyameva Jayte.

    P. S. From 1979 - 2010, merit list in prelims was calculated out of 450 marks.

From 2011-2013, out of 400 marks. In 2014, 15 marks of english were negated & the paper was of 385 marks.

From 2015 onwards, the total marks is 200. This is like moving towards chaos & disorder - Its being highly unscientific. Where the need was examining candidates on diversified subjects with higher range of marks like 500-600 or at least 450+ to reduce randomness & luck, opposite occurred & candidates accepted it, instead of mass protesting.

  • This thread was intended to learn few things-
    1. One should not rely on answer keys of institutions
    2. To get an idea what Upsc might consider correct, in post prelim Bakar thread there were many who posted some xyz PDF to claim their answer to be correct, none helped.Bottomline is Upsc considers basic stuffs thats it. Instead we should start studying for mains no Matter how pre went.
    3. For irrigation wala question, I still feel somewhere in some NCERT it may have been written that gypsum may not be used in water conservation.
    4. Future learning- Upsc would probably make more ambiguous paper , since seats are less and competition is more. This is just what I feel might happen.
    5. All the best.

I got 60 correct yet could not clear. Scored 105 exactly.

Can one attempt only 53-54 and expect to qualify? What about negative marking?

u got 60 correct but still u attempted those which u were not sure . yes there is negative marking. If u can attempt 80 odd with 10-12 wrong u can easily clear plus u can also leave controversial questions. Even if u attempt 70 questions with 8-9 wrong answers u can still make. upsc eliminates those who attempt all questions

That's the problem. How can one be sure? You can only be sure after you get the answer key.

Most serious can only be 100 percent sure about 40-45 questions. Everyone has to take risks.

Easy to tell someone get 60 right and only 10 wrong. Does not happen in reality.

    Prelims is all about luck.

That's true. Luck plays a huge factor.

These toppers and cosching conmen talk about intelligent guessing and minimizing negative marks. But in reality only luck matters. When a tukka works it's intelligent guessing.

It's easy to say attempt 70 and get 60 right. Or attempt 85 and get 65 right.

But in reality it works only if you have luck on your side.

Last line is incorrect totally.. there are many of them eg Madhusudan hulgi sir, Mallika Sudhir mam, and many more..the thing is some of them are scared of the past failure in prelim which ultimately results in negativity in the exam.. all you need is confidence and courage to attempt some more mcqs.

    4. Future learning- Upsc would probably make more ambiguous paper , since seats are less and competition is more. This is just what I feel might happen.
    5. All the best.

Apart from 1-2 question rest all paper was good. this year will happen same 98 questions were perfect and u just needed 53-54 correct. If u cant achieve that than i must say u are not a serious candidate Bitter truth

2 tukke idhar udhar hue aur khel khatam..

90 Q attempt m 40 pta rehta h.. 50 m tukke.. ab agar din accha hua.. 23 correct and 27 incorrect toh INN.. (assuming ki 50 m se 20 toh sahi lag hi jaega...)

agar 2 tukke idhar udhar hue toh khtm
How are you @Cremator bhai... Long time.
lanka lagi h bhai.. 1002 h kash reserve hi mil jaye.. daf m bharne ho jaega.. pre toh kuch padhne ka mann nhi ho rha
Yaar it's really painful jab 4 5 marks Kam hota hai to..
Lag jao bhai pre mein.. aap waise hi kar sakte ho.. don't think much..
ha yaar.. Pre m sab unn 2-3 Qs par depend karta h..

This thread was intended to learn few things-

Yea yea seriously ... I found many guys who are champions of pre ... Never got thru mains... It means mxm serious guys get eliminated in mains only... Those who could not clear pre aren't serious....
He's being sarcastic. Look at the way he is describing prelims champions.
