"Growth projections can be hazardous." What does it mean?

edited September 2013 in Current Affairs
This is the last line of today's article in the hindu by C.R.L Narasimhan on "Dimming prospects in a difficult year".
Article explains only the various growth rates given by various agencies and the assumptions behind estimates. But I didn't get the meaning of above sentence .
Please elaborate..

  • IMO it tries to say that much vaunted reform won't materialize, howsoever sound and practical assumptions might be. This is due to the turbulent situations surrounding the year.

  • @Doon_20
O.k But how could be it "Hazardous" for economy?

  • Not hazardous for the economy.. what he means by saying "Growth projections can be hazardous" is that projecting growth itself is hazardous because its prone to errors and nobody can predict is correctly.. for example RBI says 5.5%, Pmeac says 5.3% etc

  • "projecting growth itself is hazardous"
But hazardous to what? It would be hazardous only when it would have negative effects on something...

I think he was trying to say that wrong assumptions can lead to wrong estimates that itself can harm economy because many monetary policies and actions of government and RBI are based on it and hence can wrongly effected the economy if the estimates are wrong..

  • It has bn correctly stated dat growth projections by various agencies cn b hazardous. . Bcoz a slower growth rate prediction would create a negatv environment in the busines world esp the investors (viz. FDI ,FII etc) and that wud exacerbate the current economic slowdown. . .
  • @aspire_ias123
Ya, that's what I was thinking about..
    O.k Thanks all.. :)>-
