Whether to make notes or not

Currently I am doing B.tech(3rd yr) and alongside preparing for ias(without coaching) from last year onwards and will appear for prelims in 2018. I will opt history as my optional subject. Now my query is should I make notes for other subjects also ( as I know that it is mandatory for current affairs and optional) especially for geography that I am preparing from ncert and GC Leonge and other GS subjects also???? I have covered basic books at least twice except for those subjects which are only in  mains paper not in prelims. Initially when I started making notes I found it quiet time consuming so I stopped making them after 3-4 days. But now I am confused because  some seniors told me that it is very important to make notes so that revision become easy.
So plz tell me what to do now, should I start making notes or to continue to revise from books everytime???
