  • In addition to identifying issues, we can think of probable questions and answers to them.

Q1. How is Andhra Pradesh faring after bifurcation?
    A. Bifurcation of the state in 2014 left AP with huge revenue deficit, loss of a capital and consequent income from it. AP is now recuperating and stands in a better position today. This is signified by the facts that the state achieved double-digit growth in the last two financial years. This growth rate is higher than any other state. Also, it achieved top position in WB's Ease of doing business rankings. In spite of these, the state still hasn't overcome financial difficulties and is in need of assistance from the central govt. And there are hopes of common people which need to be rekindled.

    Others can contribute to this.

  • Q2. So, do you think protests for Special Category Status for Andhra Pradesh are justified?
    A. Because of aforementioned problems, AP is need of financial support from the central govt. SCS has its advantages in promoting the development in the state. Hon. PM has made an oral commitment regarding this on the floor of Parliament in 2014. But, the prevailing political conditions and the dilution of benefits of SCS after 14th Finance Commission's award have made according SCS difficult. A special package was announced by central govt. in October 2016 which tries to approximate benefits of an SCS state. But, there is mistrust among people regarding the package. They see SCS as sort of a permanent solution. Hence the protests.

    Any additions are welcome.

do you think with present level of investment and issue of water sharing and with major projects like polavaram yet to to take more time can ap sustain high growth?

  • andhra pradesh has good sex ratio when compared to national average on th other hand child marriages are widely prevalent in andhra pradesh.can you explain this contradiction?

[I don't think there needs to be a contradiction b/w sex ratio and no. of child marriages. I'll try to answer child marriages part]

    A. Though they are banned, child marriages are still prevalent, rather widely in Andhra Pradesh and Telangana. Socio-economic factors contribute to this trend. Many families depend on agriculture and are likely to marry off their child soon. The practice of cross-cousin marriage in South Indian kinship system sometimes leads to this. As we can notice, child marriages are most prevalent in the age group of 16-17 for girls. This is because girls are stopped from pursuing education after tenth class for various reasons: lack of opportunities, failure in high school, poverty etc. Marriage usually follows for such girls.

Andhra Pradesh is reeling under financial constraints and facing other hurdles. But, the recent bullish sentiment among investors during Sunrise investment summit and the fact that AP attracted more investments than other industrial states like Gujarat, Maharashtra paint a positive picture for future. Also, successive droughts because of El-Nino have passed and normal rainfall is expected. This is good for agriculture. Construction of capital city and other infrastructure is likely to generate more employment. So, if govt. can manage its expenditure well, growth will sustain.
