You have to keep in mind some things to get better marks in UPSC mains examination - (I personally got close to 400 marks, so I hope these few pointers will help) -

    (a) Stop posting in "CAPITAL LETTERS". You do not need to show-off unnecessarily. Its very irritating to see people over-stressing normal things. You should write formally and people will understand and reply. Same goes for UPSC mains examination.

    (b) Even when you are using informal channels like forumias or any other such channel, always use normal English instead of SMS type English. You can avoid using words such as PLZ and instead use 'please'. It won't take too much time, and you will be more conscious while writing your message.

    (c) Another benefit of this habit is that you will get red color line below those words whose spelling is incorrect. So, indirectly you will learn correct spelling of different words and you will increase your vocabulary. (For example - You have written "DEFINATELY" wrong. If you would have cared about that red mark below your sentence you would have auto-corrected it or rather looked for correct spelling.

Thanks a lot :) Have a nice day.

Thank you for being critical.I used the capital unintentionally.May be because I was lazy to press caps lock key.I think you have not seen the copies of Tina Dabi. She uses capital letters to highlight things in every answer.

Even I have used capital letters once. Check where? Using once to show something very important is okay, but choosing to write totally in capital letters is irritating. Anyway, its all right brother. All in good faith.

    Okay, next tip.

You need to read carefully and then you need to develop a habit of understanding the things that you have read. See, what I wrote and what you understood.

I told you that even I use capital letters but seldom, like I've written "DEFINATELY" in capital. That's what I wanted to convey. No I'm not in service, but I've cleared one of UPSC Grade-A exams already. Have not joined yet.

  • Although I m not specialist in GS but can suggest you to write as much as possible. Write test series and review it and work on it till you get feeling that you can write structure and content as per the demand of the question. No one is perfect in answer writing. They learn it through practise.
