essay preparation

Can we discuss here, what are the points one needs to keep in mind while preparing the essay paper. There is no parameter on which we can judge and evaluate ourselves as to whether we have written a good essay while practicing it. So, we can discuss here, how should we approach the essay and practice essays accordingly.
Also, do we need to prepare any extra notes specifically from the newspaper for the essay paper or is it not needed? Say, specific notes on women issues, poverty issues, etc. just solely for the essay paper.

  • In short, this is how I prepared - I kept a thorough eye on current affairs, editorials, rajya sabha tv debates, world economic forum debates, vice president and president's speeches at various universities etc... pib and youtube will help you here. Based on that I made notes on 10 selected topics. Those topics were broad enough to cover any trajectory that may come from them... & those notes contain 2-3 quotes, few statistics, few good catchy phrases and a concluding note. I didn't write whole of the essays. I've written mains thrice by now and I always get something from them. If nothing else then the same catch phrases and quotes will come out to be handy elsewhere like in language or ethics papers.
