Do good graduation marks matter in CSE interview ?

Yes. At least it helps avoiding uncomfortable questions.
My poor grades gives the impression that I took graduation lightly (I did actually) :D
Do guys with top CGPAs/University toppers/university gold medalists have an inherent advantage in interview ?

No, in your interview, they can ask you anything related to current affairs or anything even remotely connected to your hobbies .. Your marks entirely depend upon how you answer those

My hobby is trekking and my optional is not Geo .. The very first question thrown at me was name a few passes on Saltoro Ridge .. I couldn't recollect .. As Mrunal would say "itna detail mein kaun prepare karta hai" (answer: Sia La, Bilafond La, Gyong la etc. - spelling may be wrong)

There were zero questions from my grad/pg or workex or grades (which were very decent)

Though I have ~8.5 point cgpa. But I think they key is telling them the valid reasons and at the same time not showing them that you feel bad about it. Rather portary that you learned a valuable lesson and brought necessary chamges in your approach thereafter.
In short, don't be defensive be confident. 5 pointer per se is not a problem. It matters how you answer it.

Bhai cg is never 5 from sem 1. My CG after year1 was 8.6 and ended with 6.6..Hence it can be defended by saying..Scoring more marks never motivated me.. It did not proved the face value or love for engineering..May be in this way you can shift the debate to the faults of Indian Higher Education system and social value system.. where getting more marks are celebrated and consider as a ticket to good placement or PG but not necessarily learning..For example despite a SG of 5 and 5.5 in 3yd year ...I could manage a gate rank of 347 in final year..Here comparing ourselves with topper will not be a good impression..Just justify your stand..
And because UPSC has no eligibility criterion..marks can never be the sole reason of poor interview marks.

Plus you can honesty express that you did exceptional Bhasand to ensure such a remarkable achievement..I tried it..but could not make it :D
I was a counter strike(my hobby too) freak.. played 15 hours a day consistently for 1.5 years..won city tournament..It was socialising, dynamic, precision learning and exciting.
And for me, engineering, like any other graduation, was my first exposure to society which was the most precious gift which ultimately inspired me for upsc.
  • @Lokhitwadi bhai would you choose to be critical of govt. policies if asked and if you really think critical about it??like gold monetisation scheme? Or simply cut it short with optimism?

Enumerate both the sides .. Think it is better to state intent, then successes and then pitfalls - just like a GS answer. Don't think they need conformists.

thanks..but they asked after stating the intent..and the interviewer himself was critical of the scheme..and asked the interviewee what he thinks of it..And bychance if we have a reasonable argument against the scheme..should we say it..because administrators are not supposed to criticise govt. policies.
  • These are my service preferences:

    IAS-IFS-IRS-IPS.

I have put IPS below IRS.

What explanation should I give for questions like:

"Why IRS over IPS, people normally prefer IPS over IRS, what made you to take this decision?"
I am not quiet, I am plotting.

They will ask you in a comparing sense..why IRS over IPS..In such cases, best way is to emphasis only on your choice ie why irs and not on why not ips..
First thing should be any experiece or exposure to the post.(SSC.,inspiration from family member)
2nd challenging..11% tax base...challenge of parallel economy are posing a threat on equity and equality. If the legit tax is not mobilised.,funding welfare schemes will be next to impossible.
"Hence I want to give my prior efforts on tax mobilisation as most of the aspirants aspire rather for other service like IPS. Hence best among the meritocratic never choose IRS as preference because of the stigma attached of corruption".
  • @donga123 .. say i have interest.. saare facts figures ratt dallo.. har choice equally good h.. baaass usse justify kar do.. so show them u are king when it comes to business..
  • Ok.. thanks @hemu and @seed_15

    I have some idea now
I am not quiet, I am plotting.
