Fatafat philosophy optional answer writing 2017

Dear friends
We are already entering into november,so i assume that most of us are done with 1 or other paper of the optional
Purpose of this thread-
i.to gain momentum for optional which we often neglect for GS papers
ii.concept building and clarifying doubts
iii.going beyond mitra and patanjali to collect content for our answers
iv.revising already read concepts

How it can be achieved?
i.read the topic..make notes...visit previous year question papers and write answers(at least 1 ans) from most probable sub-topics
ii.post the HIGHLIGHTS of your answer for others to be reviewed(max 30 minutes)
iii.review others answers and clarify doubts if u know the answers(again 30 minutes). For this you will surely visit websites so u may get some additional points..jot them down in your notes...also you will get some additional points from others too
Seniors are requested to clarify doubts from various topics if they dont want to write.Freshers feel free to post your answers. We all are here to learn from each others

so in 1-2 hours visiting many topics a day may have high ROI..This is what I could think as best to cover optional..if u have any other ideas please chip in else we will get started from tomorrow...i will be posting my answer from Rights and accountability tomorrow
thank you

  • What is the significance of including duties of citizens in Indian constitution?(2013,150 words)
Ans-Part iv A provides for fundamental duties in Indian constitution.Their significance in the constitution can be seen as follows:
    1. To make people aware about their obligations,so they are being taken as an end than means.
    2. Mirror to show that Indian state follows socialism
3.Justifies the philo that with rights come duties. One cannot claim right without duties.
4.Act as complementary to rights. without FDs,FRs in constitution would have become meaningless if Norman Wilde is to be believed.
5.Both rights and duties together also aim at ensuring accountability.
6.Helps in realizing the DPSPs and preamble of constitution.
critique-not enforceable,so have been left at complete conscience of individual unless SC takes any step. not inclusive-mentally disabled people cant be expected to follow(weak argument though)

    doubts-
1.What does Hegel mean when he says that family is the thesis, civil society is antithesis and state is synthesis?
2.(Those who have read the topic from patanjali)-how other classification of horizontal and vertical accountability are different from the original ones...isnt is the case that both of them imply more or less same thing?

  • @Vivaan although I am not having philosophy optional, mine is pol.science. I can try to explain your doubt related to hegel.

According to hegel, these institutions have following attributes -

    Family - altruism and particularism
Civil society - universalism and egoism.
    State- universalism and altruism.

So effectively what it means is that in synthesis of family and civil society, particularism and egoism is negated.
The state thus represents universal altruism and thus it is March of God on earth.
    Sorry if I interfered. :#

  • haha @harry90 knowledge has no boundaries,so u really need not to be sorry..also the topic is taken from 'social political philosophy' so ur interference was justified...if u can provide some additions to my answers i will be obliged
bhai synthesis even i got but not the thesis and anti thesis...
    thesis-which we want to prove
    antithesis-presenting counter argument
but how can they be contrary...may be from particularism and universalism thing...m i correct?
will ping u more on the topics related to the pol science
thanx a lot for making it clear to some extent

@Vivaan hegelian dialectics shows how history moves, it attempts to show how over a period of time lesser ideas are removed and higher ideas emerge.
In family, the altruism or feeling of selflessness is limited to family members. This is thesis.
In civil society there is feeling of universalism but it involves ego, because in civil society different interest groups fight for their own cause. This is antithesis.
State is the synthesis and represents the best features of both wherein universalism and altruism co-exist.
That is state works selflessly for all.
