In order to survive,we cling to all we know & understand. And we label it reality.
But knowledge & understanding are ambiguous. That reality could be an illusion. All humans live with the wrong assumptions.
Isn't that another way of looking at it???

Are candidates called roll no. wise or is it random?

    1. Goto Wikipedia → Login → Create Wikibook → Add every page on Wikipedia that is relevant to your profile / job / origin / domicile /hobby / school / civil services / graduation / etc. → Download as a formatted pdf for free → Read.

    2. Keep revising your graduation subjects, current affairs, optional, etc.

    3. Go for a few mocks (don't ask me how many, ask @Neyawn ).

    4. Participate on this thread actively by both answering and asking questions. Both are important to understand what an interview might be like and how the interviewer thinks.

Same here. 2 year gap + 5.96 pointer in engineering. Only hope is I have seen 40% scorers in graduation become IAS. So you need to have a proper explanation for low scores but it is not the end.

Usually UPSC used to give 1 months time at least, but last to last year I think they gave only 10-15 days time, so be mindful of that. My flatmate had it on the first day and he was least prepared for it.

I don't think it is the case of tribals/ inhabitants of the red corridor supporting it as they can't fight it.
It is more because of the inability of the state to make their presence felt in these areas, to fill the gaps in providing administration. (read in the sense of providing healthcare, police station etc.) The Naxalites have grabbed this opportunity or at least have spread a propaganda that state ha not done anything and they (Naxalites) are the answer. So, this is not about tribals supporting as they cant fight. Imo, they are not fighting as they don't believe that there exists a better alternative.

thnx @cReal red corridors particularly chattisgarh, jharjhnd r mineral power house f country but still one among poorest.
reasons-may include ofcourse polulitical-executive-corporate nexus allowing iilegal mining .n also d more resourceful a state d less economical diversity.but den how to defnd d argument in wake of e.g.like Gulfnations

One more reason can be lack of entrepreneurship, risk taking mindset among people. the eastern part of India (C'garh, Jharkhand etc.) though mineral rich, but it is the western part (Gujarat, Mah etc.) that has surged ahead. (agree that oil and gas etc. have been found here but these are comparatively new discoveries compared to coal or iron ore discovery in eastern part - Even the Tata steel plant at jamshedpur was set up in 1907 that too by an entrepreneur from west of India)
As you rightly said, political-executive-corporate nexus allowing illegal mining and corruption also hinders development.

Then other reasons can be political instability (e.g. Jharkhand till last election), political ideology or unnecessary politicization (WB-Singur etc.) , lack of visionary leadership from political level (this one can be used for Gulf nations)
The gulf nations, they not fully, but have diversified to some extent. UAE's progressive leadership can be the reason.
Being more resourceful does not always lead to less diversity. Yes, it does breeds complacency and inhibits the need before the country/state/people to innovate and diversify so as to find out more means to generate wealth and better quality of life(has happened more so in India's eastern states). But if the leadership is vigilant enough, this complacency can be chked. I guess, we can give this argument in case of Gulf nations.
  • ^ just elaborating on my above argument on economic diversification of Gulf nations. all, please add on or object if you feel so.
for example, the Gulf nations have become an aviation hub and have built a whole range of service based activities like hospitality, shopping etc. around that. It helps too as, they are right between the advanced economies of America and Western Europe on one side and Singapore, India, Australia etc. on other side. This same advantage could have been leveraged by any country of Africa or Central Asia. But they could not..
  • Someone in the know, kindly enlighten..
Does the interview board chairman/ board know our written marks in the mains?
On what basis are candidates called for interview? Is it completely random? Or, is it arranged center wise- Delhi candidates are called first, and then others?
On what basis are candidates allotted interview boards? Is it random?
