May 14, CA Final : Fail
Nov 14, CA Final : Fail
May 15, CA Final : Fail
Nov 15, CA Final : Result awaited.

    This is struggle !!!

My Final result will be announced in 2 weeks. My papers were exceptionally good this time. So, lets see :)

    Next Goal : Civil Services.

My dream was to become an IAS officer but my father's dream was to see me as a Chartered Accountant.

So, my father's dream is about to get fulfilled. And now its time for my dream.

One thing I learned from CA, there is a very much chance that you will fail even if you give your best.
Now, you have two options: To get depressed and not study. or To fight back and study even more.

If a person get depressed and not study, then, he is doomed for sure.

But if a person fight back, he may succeed.

Always remember a low chance of success is always better than a zero chance of success.

This verse from Bhagavad Gita motivated me: Bhagavad Gita, Chapter 2, Verse: 47

    कर्मण्येवाधिकारस्ते मा फलेषु कदाचन।
    मा कर्मफलहेतुर्भूर्मा ते सङ्गोऽस्त्वकर्मणि॥ २-४७

The meaning of the verse is—
You have the right to work only but never to its fruits.
Let not the fruits of action be your motive, nor let your attachment be to inaction.

  • Meri adhuri kahani,

2007 - Completed graduation, Wanted to begin preparation immediately so rejected campus placements. But soon had to join another job due to family issues. Shifted to another job in Delhi in 2009. Left it around December 2009 to finally begin my tryst with Upsc.
2010 - first attempt, cleared pre with Geography optional. no way I could cover two optionals after prelims.
2011 - Change of prelims pattern, cleared prelims with Csat. No luck at mains. Had to join a job from Ssc as no other financial backup.
2012 - Same old story. Shifted to another job after mains.
2013 - cleared pre as usual. Big changes in mains pattern. I focussed more on traditional part of syllabus but majority questions were current oriented so failed again.
2014 - Now fade up with Upsc and wanted to take a break but appeared just to maintain continuity in studies. This time got interview call. As expected didn't find place in final list.
2015 - Cleared pre, appeared mains with zero writing practice throughout the year. Paid price in terms of writing speed, still let's see what happens.
All this time, ghar se koi paise nahi liye hai. Jo bhi kiya hai apne dum pe kiya hai isliye outcome chahe jo bhi nikale but I am satisfied as I haven't given up my fight for the purpose in which I believed.

bro, in your this UPSC journey, have you ever get a feeling 'ki yaar chod kuch aur karte hain, may be its not my cup of tea' - something like that.
that you feel nice that you have learnt lot of new things but now its time to move on.
So have u ever feel like giving up but you haven't?
I am asking this because you have given 6 attempts that too without family support(financially). So what helps you keep going?
  • 12th pre boards percentage :40 12th final result :87%

    ba 2nd year 51 % ba 3rd year :80 %

upsc prelims 1st attempt at 21(2014) ,prelims pass with 40 surplus marks ,mains paper went good ,hindi language failed

    upsc prelims 2nd attempt at 22 failed-2015

    pcs prelims failed

    himachal prelims failed

3 back to back failures, still awaiting prelims 2016 to fight back like a tiger

what i learnt from my personal experience is "these exams are an all or nothing affair"

if you pick up the pen to sit for the exam, either devote 200 % or dont start at all
the only hurdle between you and success is lack of genuine belief

  • 1985 : Born

2005 : Finished HS with severe urge to become a doctor. Cleared wbjee in the first shot (general)

2005-2011 : Got medical degree but lost interest in medicine completely

2012 : CSE bug bit. Gave 1st prelims with 2 months prep. Failed by 9-10 marks.

2013: Failed prelims by 3-4 marks

    2014 : Failed mains by 110+ marks

2015 : Awaiting mains results and pg entrance results for the year 2015.

Between 2011 - 2014 : Gave 8-9 pg entrance exams but left the seats because even though I came within the top 10-15% of the ranks, good seats were no longer available for us. This was the case in all but 2-3 exams at the beginning of my medical career.
    Prelims : 2/5; Mains : 0/2; Interview : 0; Remainder : 1+1 (Tired but not; Retired) / Medical Science / Kolkata / Nihilist extraordinaire | Thanks a lot...

I had a job in hand after 2nd attempt so that took care of finances. Usake pehle bhi dosto ne help kari hai jarurat ke time pe. Regarding motivation, I am altruistic by nature so helping people makes me happier than any other task. Now after 4th attempt I had a feeling that I should stop or take a break. When I thought about other options I realised that all of them could be tried later on too after few years. so I decided to continue further with upsc. With another job in hand, I have nothing to loose in trying for upsc. Luckily till now I managed to avoid the pressure for marriage so had enough time for studies. Also we get to learn a lot more from failure than success. Overall my strong belief in my purpose has kept me going through all these years. You never know how many attempts you might need but you should always work as if it's your last one.
