Free Political Science Classes

Hi Everyone,

I am planning to start free lectures for Political Science on the forum.

The initiative is to provide a thought framework for the increasing number of people opting for the subject, specially those preparing by self. The plan i am thinking of is to focus on the thinkers(Political Thought and International politics) majorly with sparing touches to IGP/Comparative politics. The intention is to provide a broad outlay/methodology for understanding the thinkers strictly from an exam point of view (given the subject's vastness we can easily get deviated and subsequently lost)

I would try to cover One thinker or a particular school of thought on a weekly/biweekly basis and would try to cover all important ones right from Plato to Gandhi.

FAQ's
Who am I? Whats my Credibility ?Why am i doing it?

I am also an aspirant, however have been in the game for some time now so just sharing the "Gyan" which i feel would be lost should i not make it to the hallowed PDF.
You can judge on usefulness of the my lectures in subsequent times.

First Thinker i'll be picking up would be Plato .

Do share any suggestions/thoughts on the initiative

P.S. Please refrain from giving negative thoughts, if you dont find the initiative usefull you can always walk away

If i may jump in ,but there is already a guy on YouTube who has made 1 hr videos of all possible thinkers , from plato to neichtze (spelling maybe wrong) .
    Try for Indian ones

Can you share the name of that profile

  • I must say that the videos are indeed useful, Though i just went through the aristotle one right now, but these are definitely usefull material.
    ·
  • please carry on gudduji.it might come handy to us
    ·
  • Nice initiative @Guddu

thats a nice idea by @Defcon1 ....Probably something related to current related IR....
    ·
  • @Guddu bhai aapko jo bhi lagta hai aap wo discuss karo baad me thoda modify ho sakta hai. Kisi na kisi ko help hi karega. Suruat toh ho pahle :)
    ·
  • Ok. Lemme take up a couple of Indian thinkers by this weekend. I am thinking of covering MN ROY and a sort of intro of how to understand any thinker
    ·
  • Great initiative. Defcons inputs seem legit to me.
    ·
  • Yeah it makes sense. However what I was trying to emphasise on learning the subject from point of view of an aspirant, how to relate the teachings in day to day aspects for better clarity, frame of mind for understanding the thought and not from strict scholarly sense.

Let's do one thing.. Lemme put out a couple of thinker's even if they are in the playlist , it can serve as another source of information and may not be an exact alternative.

Then depending on the response we can decide future topics.

P.S. I am not putting out videos as I neither have the infra nor the time to produce, edit the same. I'd be providing text probably through pdf's or word docs. :)

  • Yes that would be a good initiative ..at least we could come to know the way we need to think..if u could put some ans script of the previous year questioned asked and how u experienced guys wrote it would be of immense help.. @Defcon1 @Panditji @Guddu and other experienced one's..

Guddu bhai, please go ahead ! It will be a big help really.

  • @Guddu Ji, aap to aage badhiye.. with even more determination in ur noble intention of helping people and putting ur knowledge to good use.. Baki kuch to log kahenge, logo ka kaam hai kehna.. So take it in that way only.. That should not deter you from ur goals..

Your opening post is so very remarkable and moving, each line of it speaks of humbleness and sincerity. May God give you strength to cover what you have planned, coz the journey will be long and will test your motivation levels. However, what is most imp is to begin, rather than making long plans.

And any given day, I can tell you, written notes (of good quality) will be 10 times more beneficial that those long verbose youtube vidoes, which though will make you more knowledgeable, par exam point of view se NET output zero aayega unka.

Also please try to keep language of your posts very formal and exam-like, so that your posts can act as repository for aspirants and they can make notes directly out of them. It will be especially useful for working people who like to keep digital notes. So make proper headings, sub heading etc and use academic language. It you want to explain any thing informally, then do it separately in brackets. But try to keep standard of material high enuf to be directly used in exams.

My best wishes. Hope this effort of urs goes a long way in consolidation and documentation of knowledge and wisdom scattered so far and wide in this vast optional. ATB. Happy new year.

  • Hi Everyone,

Find attached the first lecture. As discussed i am starting with MN Roy, though it is from the middle and ideally we should have discussed many thinkers before jumping on to him.

However as pointed out the availability of videos etc. Thus we have started from Roy.

Please note the lectures/notes are experimental in nature. We can garner suggestions and improve upon it.

and as i said the last time : Negative thoughts are not welcome , if you dont like it then walk away. Constructive criticism with a solution approach is welcome and appreciated. :)

    Waiting for feedback :) :)

  • Hi Guys,

I would soon post another thinker.

Find below the order in which i want to cover the thinkers:

Plato and Aristotle ( They have the largest number of relevant thoughts and are sort of the starting of political thinking )
    Machiavelli
    Hobbes
    JS Mill
    Marx
    Gramsci
    Hannah Arendt
    TH Green/Laski/Amartya Sen etc.
School of thoughts--> Capitalism, Socialism, Liberalism ( Positive,Negative,Social, Modern etc.)
John Rawls and his idea of Justice--His critics as well
    Kautilya and Manu
    Gandhi
    Aurobindo Ghosh
    BR Ambedkar
    MN Roy(Covered)
Syed Ahmed Khan and Other freedom fighters

feel free to add/subtract/modify the list

One request : Please do make your presence felt regarding the lecture series.
If you find it good then please comment and write it so that fellow members would also access and use it
In case there are any issues then also comment so that we can incorporate it as an improvement
and In case it's useless then also comment it so that fellow members would not waste time in reading it.

    Best Wishes,
    John Green Guddu

  • Hi guyz,
I am preparing the note on Plato.
In mean time you can go through shubha ranjan's notes on the subject. I found them to be very comprehensive and almost complete.

There's another thread on the forum with the link to the notes, but in case some are not able to find it :

    ·
  • Hi Guddu. Are these notes made by SR herself or are these classnotes of any of her students?
    ·
  • @Bbaba These should be notes of a student of hers.

I dont think she would maintain something anything like ready made notes
