Bhai log, can anybody tell me which is a better service to opt for as 1st preference and 2nd preference? In many states, PCS (Executive) officers join as BDOs after two years of probation, and continue in that post for around 8 years before getting promoted to SDO level. PPS officers normally join as DSPs after probation and get Addl. SP equivalent rank after around 8 years of service. Now as both Block Development Officer (15,600 - 39,100 + GP 5,400) and Deputy Superintendent of Police (15,600 - 39,100 + GP 5,400) have the same pay scales and same grade pay, which is a better service among the two, career wise?

UPPCS THREAD MEIN BHI YEH QUERY MAARI HAI AAPNE....
@Rahul Krishna . Bhai, main ye cheez har jaga likh raha hu taaki mujhe pata chale ki in dono services mein se accha kaun sa hai. Want to know your opinions. I am from West Bengal. Kuch din pehle WBCS ki interview di thi. Yahan WBCS (Exe) log BDO hote hai probation ke baad, na ki seedhe SDM/SDO. SDO bante hai kareeb 8 saal service ke baad. WBPS log DSP bante hai, probation ke kareeb 8 saal baad, Addl. SP rank unhe mil jaati hai and IPS nomination after 13 years of service. I chose WBPS isliye. Still wanted to know your views, kyunki generally sab log Executive choose karte hai.
Please clarifiy...
Deputy collector and BDO is same or different?
In UPPCS, top post is considered as SDM. What is the difference between Deputy collector and SDM I.e. after how many year, deputy collector will become SDM in Bihar?
@abhigail . Bhai, mein aapko west bengal ke baare mein batata hu, kyunki i am from west bengal. In west bengal WBCS (Exe) officers are called Dy Magistrate and Dy Collector during probation. Uske baad they join as BDOs and remain in that rank for another 7-8 years. After that they become SDO/SDM. In UP, Punjab, Himachal, Rajasthan, Executive probationers are called Dy Collectors during probation, and they become SDM after completion of probation period. In these states Executive officers dont join as BDO. Bihar mein i dont know what is the scene. Must be similar to WB i guess.
Some one told me that BDO is lower post than deputy collector in Bihar. BDO will become deputy collector after 6-8 years. However, I don't know the actual position. Any member if know may please explain.
Do the preference of post is required to be filled during Mains exam form or during interview?

yes BDO is lower post ( block level) SDM/SDO is bigger post (Sub division level)
The state is divided into the following administrative units arranged hierarchically: Divisions, Districts, Sub-Divisions, Blocks, and Panchayats. The administrators for these units, respectively, are: Commissioner, District Magistrate (DM, also known as "the Collector"), Sub-Divisional Officer (SDO), Block Development Officer (BDO), and Mukhiya.
BDO is lower than SDM/SDO is true but I want to know its ranking in respect of deputy collector I.e. up samaharta in Bihar. BDO is prakhand vikas adhikari.
This year, there is around 100 post of deputy collector. Some people say that it is same as BDO but some says that it is senior to BDO. Plz. clarify if any idea...

collectorate posting is designated as Dy collector (many Dy collector designation like DEPUTY COLLECTOR LAND REFORMS, SENIOR DEPUTY COLLECTOR ,ARMS, SENIOR DEPUTY COLLECTOR , RECORD ROOM etc)
In short many Dy collector in single sub division but only a single SDO/SDM in that sub division After clearing BPSC(BAS) you will be posted as Dy Collector dont know how much time it take to become SDO/SDM
