  • forestry has been doing consistently good. Plus being in IFoS taking optional forestry will help in interview or pre where cut off is high for IfoS. i m taking forestry for 2016. what about ur other optional ??
    Pre 2015- Fail
    Pre 2016- Fail

  • I have chosen Agriculture. I found Paper 2 very specific but managable. So, Forestry is better is you haven't studied Biology till 12th at least.
    pre - 2, mains - 1*

but too many people take forestry so it may cause scaling of marks.so i m worried

  • Its better to score 150 in Forestry than to take extra load by choosing a tougher and less popular optional which requires extra effort. If your sole aim is IFoS then choose whatever you want.
    pre - 2, mains - 1*

If you are from biology background then opt for agriculture.well paper1 of Agri is very easy and paper 2 is similar to botany..

  • @lazyalmond so what you have taken other optional subject ?? well if you take Agri then it's good for both ias as well as ifs
  • my other optional would be geology

Unless you share an optional in csm with ifs, it will be outright killer to manage both exams. I think its doable, if you start now, but don't expect to make an appreciable dent in the syllabus considering you will have to start with 10+2 level basics.

  • Considering that I'm not taking the civils this year, would it be advisable to start off with Botany and Agri now. I have no background in either.

What is the extent of overlap?

Also, any IFoS related tactics or concerns?

    Thanks!

Look I am a fresh candidate...so, please don't base you future on what I say. I am simply sharing whatever I have gatehred from lurking for a while.

Just IFS, then go for it, because you wont have to deal with all those extra GS and language paper. Botany and Ag are interlinked, if you put in enough revision, you might just crack it. Ag paper 2 and botany have a lot in common. But with pcm, you will have to start with 10+2 level cbse biology books. Just go through books for 11+12 and see if you can handle it. We cover a decent portion of irrigation and hydrology in civil engineering, so I found Ag doable, but I had biology along with pcm...Anyway 11,12 cbse books first. If The CAM/C4 photosynthesis cycles don't stump you, you are good to go.

Google for ag/botany strategy...I remember seeing a couple or so on mrunal.

Have u done research on forestry as well?if yes,do share!
Ps-have studied bio till 10th.i am confused b/w agri and forestry.have non technical optional in csm

  • @everybodylies You don't really need biology in +2 to take ag/forestry, as it is for any bachelors degree you start from the basics don't you?Its not like you are taking up a engineering optional overnight.
